This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.
• Design, develop, and sustain reproducible bioinformatics pipelines for genomic, transcriptomic, single-cell, spatial, proteomic, metagenomic, metabolomic, and clinical datasets.
• Create reusable transformation logic and curated datasets for analytics, dashboards, APIs, notebooks, and subsequent research workflows.
• Assist in bulk RNA-seq, single-cell RNA-seq, and Digital Spatial Profiling analysis workflows, encompassing QC, differential expression, clustering, annotation, normalization, spatial deconvolution, plots, and heatmaps.
• Facilitate data ingestion, curation, metadata capture, source-to-target mapping, schema management, provenance tracking, and long-term maintainability of data products.
• Employ statistical modeling and machine-learning techniques on biomedical datasets, including hypothesis testing, regression, clustering, PCA, UMAP, t-SNE, and classification.
• Integrate AI/LLM-based extraction as suitable, ensuring validation and effective communication with stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain interactive dashboards, notebooks, reports, APIs, and research visualizations.
• Collaborate with scientists from NCI, bioinformaticians, clinician-researchers, data engineers, software developers, and governmental stakeholders.
• Convert scientific requirements into technical specifications, data models, and reusable workflows.
• Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Bioinformatics, Computer Science, Biological Sciences, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
• Proven experience in a data-intensive position supporting biomedical research or scientific computing.
• High proficiency in Python and R for analysis, scripting, and visualization.
• Practical experience with at least two omics data types.
• Strong understanding of statistical modeling, dimensionality reduction, clustering, differential expression, and pathway analysis.
• Capability to work with structured, semi-structured, and unstructured data across relational and data lake environments.
• Excellent problem-solving abilities.
• Proficient in communicating effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Skillful in translating scientific needs into technical solutions while articulating risks, assumptions, and limitations.
• Genuine interest in biomedical and translational research.
• Eagerness to learn domain-specific terminology and workflows.
• Understanding of data governance, privacy, and compliance requirements related to clinical and research data.
