Data Protection, Classification Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create and sustain enterprise data classification models, taxonomies, and tagging protocols.

• Facilitate policy-driven data protection mandates that align with the Zero Trust data framework.

• Execute and verify data encryption standards, safeguards for data-at-rest, and secure data transit protocols.

• Assist with data loss prevention (DLP) measures, rule optimization, and enforcement strategies.

• Formulate and enhance data access decision-making rules based on mission requirements, sensitivity classifications, and Zero Trust principles.

• Detect sensitive data flows and design secure data transfer practices across various systems and environments.

• Collaborate with cybersecurity, cloud, network, and application teams to implement secure data management controls.

• Perform regular data access audits to ensure accurate tagging, classification, and control applications.

• Aid in the identification and resolution of improper data sharing, tagging discrepancies, or policy breaches.

• Document standards for data protection, workflows, classification maps, and technical configurations.

• Contribute to continuous monitoring efforts by participating in data-related risk evaluations, compliance checks, and reporting cycles.

• Engage in modernization planning to align data protection strategies with advancing Zero Trust capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must possess an active Top Secret clearance, supported by a Tier 5 background investigation.

• Bachelor’s degree in Cybersecurity, Data Management, Information Science, or a related field.

• A minimum of 5 years of experience in data protection, data governance, information security, or operations aligned with Zero Trust principles.

• Experience in developing or managing data classification, tagging schemas, or metadata frameworks.

• Proven experience in supporting encryption, DLP, or data access enforcement controls.

• Experience in analyzing data flows, identifying sensitive information, or enforcing secure data transfer protocols.

• Experience collaborating with cybersecurity and IT teams to implement data protection policies.

• Strong grasp of data protection principles, classification models, metadata tagging, and DLP enforcement techniques.

• Knowledge of encryption techniques, secure storage practices, and protections for data-at-rest and data-in-transit.

• Familiarity with the principles of the Zero Trust data framework and policy-driven data security.

• Understanding of DoD data protection standards and federal information security regulations.

• Required Security+ certification.

• Strong analytical capabilities for assessing data flows, identifying protection gaps, and determining classification needs.

• Excellent communication skills for effective coordination among cybersecurity, engineering, and mission teams.

• High attention to detail for managing tagging schemas, classification rules, and access restrictions.

• Ability to document data protection procedures and maintain clear governance documentation.

• Capability to manage multiple data protection projects in a dynamic mission environment.
