
Data Engineer – Tracking & Behavioral Data

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Germany.
• Design, implement, and manage the tracking infrastructure for web and product data, including Google Tag Manager.
• Establish event schemas and tracking plans, ensuring the reliable collection of important customer journey signals.
• Integrate clickstream and behavioral data from search, navigation, recommendations, product pages, and conversion processes into the data platform.
• Create and maintain scalable ETL and ELT pipelines along with reusable data products.
• Lay the groundwork for A/B testing, personalization, and recommendation systems.
• Work with Kafka and event-driven data sources, integrating various systems into the platform.
• Ensure the quality of data, manage consent, uphold governance, and protect behavioral data.
• Collaborate closely with Product Management, Engineering, UX, Analytics, and Online Marketing teams.
• Contribute to the Data Engineering practice, assisting in the development of shared standards and methodologies.
• Several years of experience in data engineering or a similar technical data role.
• Strong proficiency in SQL and Python, along with experience in ETL/ELT and data modeling.
• Significant experience with web and product tracking, especially in event tracking and clickstream data.
• In-depth knowledge of Google Tag Manager; experience with server-side tagging is advantageous.
• Familiarity with a modern data stack, ideally including Snowflake, dbt, and Prefect.
• Experience with Kafka or similar event and streaming technologies.
• Knowledge of AWS; experience with Infrastructure as Code using Pulumi or Terraform is preferred.
• Understanding of consent management, GDPR, data quality, and data governance.
• An independent, structured, and solution-oriented work approach.
• Proficiency in German at least at B2 level and fluent in English.
• Nice to have: Experience with GA4, server-side tracking, or a Customer Data Platform.
• Nice to have: Familiarity with A/B testing and conversion rate optimization (CRO).
• Nice to have: Experience with personalization or recommendation data.
• Nice to have: Knowledge of search or discovery systems such as Algolia.
• Nice to have: Experience in e-commerce, marketplace, or platform environments.
