Data Engineer – Data Platform, AI-Enabled

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with product, engineering, customer-facing teams, and business users to create reliable, well-structured, AI-ready data products.

• Define and implement a semantic layer for data consumption by humans, BI tools, and AI systems.

• Facilitate a federated BI model that promotes safe self-service insights.

• Utilize AI tools on a daily basis to enhance development, testing, documentation, debugging, analysis, and design processes.

• Establish practical AI-first development practices for the team.

• Set an example in AI usage while ensuring quality, security, governance, and trust.

• Oversee the continuous operation of services beyond the development phase.

• Engage in the Enterprise On-Call and Incident Response Process.

• Educate, mentor, and influence colleagues in adopting AI-first working methodologies.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive data engineering experience, including proficiency in SQL, data modeling, data processing pipelines, testing, documentation, and data integrations in live environments.

• Capability to develop high-quality data products with defined ownership, specifications, testing, lineage, and governance.

• Strong grasp of AI-ready semantic modeling, metrics, business definitions, secure API data exposure, and self-service analytics.

• A platform/product mindset bolstered by expertise in cloud infrastructure, DevOps, data architecture, and reusable capabilities.

• Comfort in working within a small team where ownership, initiative, and communication are essential.

• Proven experience utilizing AI tools in genuine engineering scenarios, such as Cursor, Claude, ChatGPT, Copilot, or similar tools.

• Ability to educate, mentor, and influence others towards AI-first working practices.

• Experience in building machine-learning pipelines for enterprise-level software solutions.

• Ability to clearly articulate a personal journey into Data Engineering and AI-first development, with real examples showcasing AI's impact on delivery.

• Capacity to explain the AI tools used, validation and assessment of AI-generated outputs, AI limitations, and risk management strategies.

• Experience in regulated, privacy-sensitive, or healthcare-related data settings is beneficial.

• Familiarity with Snowflake Cloud, dbt, Airbyte, Airflow, Python, Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm, Azure Cloud, Kafka, Debezium, GitLab, prompt engineering, vector databases, LangChain/LangGraph, and Matillion.

• Candidates must possess authorization to work in Canada.
