Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Virginia.

📋 Description

• Develop, configure, and maintain application components such as intake forms, role-based dashboards, workflow routing, notifications, and audit logging.

• Design, construct, and sustain relational and list-based data structures that support workflow routing, threshold logic, versioning, and historical reporting.

• Create and manage data pipelines for the ingestion, validation, transformation, and loading of data from Excel, CSV, form submissions, and upstream enterprise systems.

• Write, optimize, and troubleshoot SQL queries and stored logic to enhance application functionality, reporting, and data quality assurance.

• Develop and facilitate REST API integrations and JSON data exchanges.

• Generate reporting views, dashboards, and automated document or summary outputs for request status, SLA compliance, and enterprise performance metrics.

• Convert business epics, user stories, and acceptance criteria into functional capabilities.

• Engage in backlog refinement, estimation, sprint planning, and daily stand-ups.

• Conduct data validation, maintain test datasets, support unit and regression testing, and assist in defect triage and resolution.

• Utilize Git-based version control and partake in peer code reviews, branching, merging practices, deployment, and release activities.

• Produce and sustain technical documentation, which includes data dictionaries, schema and configuration documentation, and runbooks.

• Ensure compliance with federal security, privacy, records management, and Section 508 accessibility standards.

• Collaborate with business analysts, product owners, testers, and client subject matter experts.

• Communicate progress, risks, and obstacles to the technical lead and project manager.

• Stay updated with relevant development, data engineering, and platform capabilities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, information systems, software engineering, or a related field.

• Over 8 years of experience in software development, data engineering, or a closely related technical position; internship, co-op, research, and significant academic or personal project experience will be taken into account.

• Proficiency in Python.

• Familiarity with the Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Dataverse) and SharePoint Online.

• Proficient in SQL, with a working knowledge of relational database design and data modeling.

• Experience in building or consuming REST APIs and working with structured data formats such as JSON.

• Familiarity with Git-based version control and collaborative development workflows.

• Capability to interpret and work from written requirements, user stories, and acceptance criteria.

• Ability to create clear technical documentation and convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

• Willingness and proven ability to rapidly learn new platforms and tools, including low-code development environments.

• Capacity to work independently or as part of a cross-functional team in a remote or hybrid environment.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Detail-oriented with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and requests effectively.

• Eligibility to obtain a Public Trust Clearance.
