Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Create and manage data pipelines, mainly utilizing SparkSQL and PySpark, within the central data lake.

• Ingest and transform data from IoT devices and software applications into the core data architecture.

• Develop and sustain highly dependable computed tables using unstructured data, Samsara sensor and product information, along with customer metadata.

• Access, manipulate, and integrate external datasets with internal data sources.

• Provide high-quality data with robust uptime and reliability, including datasets for customer-facing applications.

• Collaborate with teams in Data Science & Analytics, AI/ML, and other Data Engineers.

• Supply high-quality data for causal inference, model training, and dashboard creation.

• Promote and integrate Samsara’s cultural principles as the organization expands globally.

⛳️ Requirements

• BA / MS degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.

• Over 4 years of experience in a data engineering-centric position.

• Proven experience in designing scalable data models.

• Competence in building ETL pipelines to manage large data volumes.

• Experience with Spark-based data platforms.

• Strong proficiency in at least one data orchestration tool, such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect.

• Expertise in SQL, Python, and working with REST APIs.

• Familiarity with software engineering principles and the ability to read backend development code.

• Experience with version control systems like Git/GitHub.

• No relocation assistance will be provided.

• Must possess the legal right to work for the company in the specified location.

• Familiarity with time series data and late-arriving data.

• Knowledge of Databricks, Delta Lakes, and Dagster.

• Previous experience in a public cloud environment, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.

• Exposure to data modeling for a product’s first-party data.

• Experience with complex data, including ML outputs and/or client-side signals.
