This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Create and manage data pipelines, predominantly utilizing SparkSQL and PySpark, within the central data lake.
• Ingest and transform raw data from IoT devices and software applications into the primary data model.
• Develop and sustain highly dependable computed tables derived from unstructured data, Samsara sensor and product data, as well as customer metadata.
• Access, manipulate, and merge external datasets with internal data.
• Provide high-quality data with excellent uptime and reliability, including datasets for customer-facing applications.
• Collaborate with Data Science & Analytics, AI/ML teams, and fellow Data Engineers.
• Assist in causal inference, model training, statistical analysis, and the creation of dashboards.
• Advocate for and integrate Samsara’s cultural values as the company expands globally.
• BA / MS degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field.
• Over 4 years of experience in a data engineering-focused position.
• Proven experience in designing scalable data models.
• Expertise in building ETL pipelines to manage large volumes of data.
• Experience with Spark-based data platforms.
• Strong proficiency in at least one data orchestration tool, such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect.
• In-depth knowledge of SQL, Python, and working with REST APIs.
• Familiarity with software engineering principles and the ability to read backend development code.
• Experience with version control systems like Git/GitHub.
• Candidates must be located in Canada.
• Must have the legal right to work at Samsara and in the designated work location.
• Understanding of time series data and late-arriving data.
• Knowledge of Databricks, Delta Lakes, and Dagster.
• Previous experience in a public cloud environment, such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Exposure to a data model for a product’s first-party data.
• Familiarity with complex data, including machine learning outputs and/or client-side signals.
