Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee the ingestion of external health and benefits data into Nava’s domain models.

• Develop pipelines that alert on erroneous inputs, reconcile source counts to normalized tables, and identify issues early on.

• Consolidate employee eligibility and elections data under standardized mapping, validation, and testing methodologies.

• Expand pipeline processes to approximately 40 times the current data footprint.

• Assess OLAP versus OLTP storage and compare event streaming with nightly jobs.

• Ensure that member-ID, eligibility, and claims mapping and identity decisions are documented and can be reviewed.

• Create observability and automation tools, including TypeScript web applications and AI-assisted matching solutions.

• Run pipelines as production-grade software with alerts, idempotent reruns, backfills, and secure management of SSNs and health information.

• Engage in interviews focused on pipeline experience, handling of bad inbound data, practical coding, design, and personal achievements.

⛳️ Requirements

• Hands-on experience managing a production data pipeline that is essential for other teams.

• Proficiency in Python and SQL, including knowledge of joins, indexes, query plans, query-performance diagnostics, and evaluating fixes.

• Experience with a data orchestrator; Dagster preferred, with comparable experience in Airflow or Prefect.

• Familiarity with Postgres or a similar cloud relational database.

• Expertise in reconciliation, data-quality thresholds, and trusted testing practices.

• Daily AI-assisted development workflow; capability to recognize suitable delegation and incorrect agent outputs.

• Attention to detail when handling sensitive data.

• Ability to communicate effectively with nontechnical individuals.

• Specific experience with Dagster, Spark-scale data, a degree, and years of experience are not mandatory.

• Practical experience with dbt is a strong advantage, but not a requirement.
