Data Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Develop and enhance the data foundations that support customer-facing products, including predictive features, adaptive learning, and assessment insights.

• Design, implement, and continuously optimize robust, scalable data pipelines and models.

• Influence the technical trajectory of the data platform.

• Enhance the flow of data between the application, warehouse, and product interfaces.

• Create clean, well-tested, and reusable solutions utilizing Python, SQL, and dbt.

• Enhance data quality, observability, and reliability.

• Collaborate with product, engineering, commercial teams, and educational specialists to identify challenges, develop solutions, and assess impact.

• Develop clear models, tools, and patterns that facilitate safe and confident self-service.

• Leverage AI tools and agents for research, prototyping, exploration, and solution development.

• Contribute to product features, APIs, internal tools, or automation as appropriate.

• Review code, share knowledge, and elevate data engineering standards.

• Mentor engineers and enhance data capabilities across the engineering team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience in designing, building, maintaining, and scaling production data pipelines and platforms.

• Proficient in Python and SQL.

• Ability to produce clear, maintainable, and well-tested code.

• Knowledge of data modeling and database architecture.

• Understanding of the trade-offs involved in constructing reliable, scalable data systems.

• Experience with cloud data warehouses, orchestration tools, and transformation frameworks.

• Capable of end-to-end ownership from initial discovery to implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement.

• Skill in converting ambiguous requirements into practical solutions while balancing speed, quality, and long-term scalability.

• Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical colleagues.

• Ability to simplify complex data issues.

• Confident use of AI tools and agents for learning, investigation, and development.

• Comfortable working beyond a narrowly defined specialty.

• Familiarity with BigQuery, Airflow, and dbt, or equivalent modern data technologies.

• Experience with CockroachDB, Postgres, or other distributed/relational databases, including CDC or event-driven data pipelines.

• Knowledge of data visualization tools, preferably Tableau or Metabase.

• Experience in enabling safe self-service data access through internal tools, analytics platforms, or LLM-powered interfaces.

• Background in supporting product analytics or developing data-driven product features.
