This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +2 more countries.
β’ Examine enrollment, payment, survey, and field operations data to detect patterns of fraud, anomalies, and new fraud typologies across various programs and locations.
β’ Develop, validate, and sustain ongoing fraud-risk monitoring in collaboration with central data and operational control stakeholders.
β’ Recognize data-quality issues within Internal Audit and assist in designing and implementing process enhancements.
β’ Integrate data-driven decision-making into the design of Internal Audit processes.
β’ Create clear and credible briefs and presentations with actionable recommendations for country teams, operational leadership, and senior management.
β’ Aid fraud investigations by conducting data analysis, quantifying exposures, and reconstructing events.
β’ Ensure that investigative analyses are reproducible and audit-ready, with documented queries, data lineage, assumptions, exclusions, and quality assurance checks.
β’ Convert validated risk signals into product specifications, domain expertise, acceptance criteria, and control testing in collaboration with Product and Central Data teams.
β’ Collaborate with Data Engineering to improve upstream data quality and pipelines while managing the downstream analytical layer.
β’ Back-test risk indicators against investigated cases and track precision, coverage, and false-positive rates.
β’ Communicate uncertainties transparently by differentiating confirmed fraud from suspicious but unverified patterns.
β’ Work within Internal Audit with a dotted reporting line to the Director of Data; connect Internal Audit domain requirements with organization-wide data and engineering practices.
β’ Minimum of 4 years of experience in data analysis, audit, risk, or a similar analytical position.
β’ Proficient in SQL.
β’ Comfortable working directly with large, sometimes complex operational datasets, including Salesforce, payments, and survey data.
β’ Experience using Python for reproducible analysis, automation, record linking, anomaly investigation, or data-quality testing is highly preferred.
β’ Familiarity with analytical notebooks, version control, and documenting analyses for review and replication is a plus.
β’ Experience with visualization tools such as Looker, Tableau, or Power BI, and/or Python/R for analysis.
β’ Ability to convert ambiguous exploratory analyses into a clear, defensible narrative for non-technical stakeholders.
β’ Experience or a strong interest in collaborating cross-functionally with product and engineering teams to translate analytical needs into product specifications.
β’ Sound judgment regarding evidence quality and the ability to differentiate genuine signals from noise.
β’ High integrity and discretion when dealing with sensitive information related to staff, recipients, and ongoing investigations.
β’ Alignment with GiveDirectly's values, with a focus on prioritizing recipient wellbeing.
β’ Availability to overlap with the East Africa timezone by a minimum of 3 hours.
β’ Must be eligible to work in one of GiveDirectly's approved countries.
β’ GiveDirectly cannot sponsor or assume sponsorship of employment visas in the U.S. or U.K.
β’ Target performance bonus: 10%, with potential for additional upside.
β’ Annual benefits stipend: $21,393 in the United States, Β£2,760 in the United Kingdom, or $0 in Kenya.
