This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in New Jersey, +1 more state.
• Prepare and evaluate specimens for cytogenetic testing.
• Support wet lab functions throughout all stages of established cytogenetic diagnostic protocols.
• Collaborate independently and as part of a team with healthcare professionals.
• Identify, prepare, and process tissue and body fluid specimens per departmental SOPs with minimal technical errors and supervision.
• Conduct FISH and/or chromosome analysis and chromosome microarray (CMA) analysis as necessary.
• Prioritize and reorganize tasks in response to workload and STAT requests.
• Recognize and resolve instrument malfunctions as per the operations manual, documenting troubleshooting activities.
• Carry out quality control and performance improvement measures, including reagent lot-to-lot comparisons and continuous quality control.
• Engage in validation projects and manage associated data.
• Offer clinical orientation and training for new hires and students.
• Partake in continuing education initiatives and proficiency testing.
• Assist in inventory management when needed.
• Review and revise existing SOPs.
• Respond to on-call demands.
• BS degree in biological science/chemistry fulfilling CLIA 88 personnel requirements AND completion of a NAACLS accredited cytogenetics education program OR two years of full-time training in a cytogenetics laboratory with an associate degree.
• Certification from a recognized certifying agency for clinical laboratory professionals is mandatory (ASCP, ASMT, NCA, etc.).
• Proficient in reading, analyzing, and interpreting common scientific and technical publications.
• Capable of addressing common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory bodies, or members of the business community.
• Skilled in working with probability, statistical inference, plane and solid geometry, trigonometry, fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions.
• Competent in defining problems, gathering data, establishing facts, and drawing valid conclusions.
• Able to interpret technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form and manage abstract and concrete variables.
• Proficient in computer skills, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, and laboratory information systems.
• Knowledgeable and skilled in handling all types of pathology tissues.
• Capable of functioning appropriately during on-call demands.
