Cybersecurity Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Oversee, troubleshoot, and optimize cybersecurity tools and sensors, including SIEM, SOAR, analysis, enrichment, alerting, and forensic data retention systems.

• Choose, test, implement, and optimize both on-premises and cloud-based technical environments that support infrastructure visibility, analysis, automation, and secure data retention.

• Steer policy decisions and manage security policies and configurations for firewalls, endpoint detection and response suites, vulnerability detection tools, and cloud-based monitoring and incident response tools.

• Create workflows, integrations, and automated tasks that enhance the capabilities of cybersecurity tools.

• Direct, design, and conduct infrastructure, application, and network tests and exercises to assess security defense strategies and tools.

• Lead IT Services project teams in the integration of network and endpoint security products with enrichment, analysis, and system management platforms.

• Develop and maintain architectural documentation and operational procedures for cybersecurity operations tools and environments.

• Spearhead projects aimed at enhancing NLR's cybersecurity program, including workflow improvements, expansion of automation, enhancements to management tools, strategic initiatives, and user awareness training.

⛳️ Requirements

• Relevant Bachelor's Degree with 9 or more years of experience, or a relevant Master's Degree with 7 or more years of experience, or a relevant PhD with 4 or more years of experience, or equivalent relevant education/experience.

• Educational requirements must be satisfied prior to the employment start date.

• Required training-specific experience or training/certifications in Splunk administration.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L/Q Security Clearance.

• U.S. citizenship is required, except in very limited circumstances affecting clearance eligibility.

• Must be able to obtain and maintain a federal Personal Identity Verification (PIV) card.

• A favorable background investigation is necessary for the PIV card.

• Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test is mandatory.

• Extensive IS proficiency in the specific field and comprehensive knowledge of related disciplines.

• Capability to assess hardware, software, systems tools, and applications, making procurement recommendations.

• Strong leadership and project management abilities.

• Proficient in analytical techniques, practices, and problem-solving skills.

• Extensive programming and architecture skills with various computer software programs and information systems.

• Preferred: at least seven years in an Information Technology role focused on security engineering.

• Preferred: possession of one or more professional security and/or systems engineering certifications, such as GIAC, Security+, or CISSP.

• Preferred: experience in Windows and Linux administration, TCP/IP networking, Bash scripting, network protocols and architecture, and defense-in-depth strategies.

• Preferred: experience managing and troubleshooting network- and host-based security tools in a substantial production infrastructure.

• Preferred: expertise in cybersecurity engineering as a subject matter expert.

• Preferred: intermediate scripting/programming skills, preferably in Python.

• Experience or certifications in Splunk SIEM and Cortex XSOAR are advantageous.

• Knowledge of cloud security architecture and event collection/aggregation is a plus.
