Cost Manager

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Maryland.

📋 Description

• Create cost estimates for conceptual, schematic design, design development, and construction documents.

• Conduct quantity take-offs, pricing, and cost analysis across key construction sectors.

• Develop budgets, cost plans, and estimate reports as deliverables for clients.

• Integrate market trends, labor availability, productivity forecasts, and project-specific logistics into the estimates.

• Collaborate with internal team members and various disciplines to ensure comprehensive and consistent project scope.

• Review drawings and specifications to accurately interpret scope and system requirements.

• Identify gaps in scope, inconsistencies, and coordination challenges across various disciplines.

• Aid in constructability reviews and provide insights on sequencing and system integration.

• Assess the cost and schedule implications of design modifications.

• Oversee project budgets and assist in cost control during the design development phase.

• Analyze historical cost data and benchmarking information to ensure estimate precision.

• Support change order evaluations and assess cost impacts.

• Recognize value engineering opportunities and strategies for cost reduction.

• Communicate with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients to clarify scope and assumptions.

• Engage in project meetings, estimate reviews, and coordination discussions.

• Participate in QA/QC processes, peer reviews, and estimate reconciliation activities.

• Keep abreast of construction market conditions and assist in updating cost databases and benchmarking tools.

• Collect pricing information from contractors, vendors, and industry resources.

• Work with senior staff and project teams to deliver accurate and high-quality estimates.

• Offer guidance and support to junior estimators as necessary.

• Contribute to process enhancements and standardization initiatives.

• Report to senior leadership within the cost management team.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Quantity Surveying, or a related field (or equivalent experience).

• 3–6 years of experience in cost estimating and preconstruction services.

• Experience with projects valued between $5 million and over $100 million.

• Background in supporting conceptual and early-stage estimating initiatives.

• Proven capability to execute estimates with increasing independence and technical accountability.

• Scheduling experience is preferred, along with knowledge or use of Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.

• Ability to read and interpret drawings and specifications across various disciplines.

• Comprehension of construction sequencing, logistics, and installation practices.

• Familiarity with cost modeling, benchmarking, and estimating methodologies.

• Working knowledge of contract documents and project delivery methods.

• Proficient in Microsoft Excel and estimating tools such as Sage Timberline, MCASES MII, or comparable platforms.
