This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee the commercial contract review process from initial intake to redlines, negotiation, advice, and final execution.
• Negotiate agreements related to vendors, marketing, creator partnerships, agencies, and retailers.
• Manage litigation holds, preservation, discovery, subpoenas, outside counsel, budget matters, and reporting.
• Direct advertising enforcement and brand protection initiatives, including cease-and-desist letters and demands.
• Assist in trademark protection and anti-counterfeiting strategies.
• Develop legal systems, encompassing precedent libraries, templates, playbooks, approval matrices, contract repositories, and matter tracking.
• Oversee sweepstakes and giveaway rules, consent and opt-in language, and releases.
• Collaborate with Unilever’s commercial contracting, IP, privacy, employment, litigation, and Wellbeing Legal teams.
• Manage the legal intake process and prioritize tasks effectively.
• Supervise outside counsel budgets and invoices.
• Work in partnership with Marketing, Retail, Operations, People, and Customer Experience teams.
• Report directly to the General Counsel.
• Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
• Active bar license in good standing within at least one US jurisdiction.
• If residing in a state where not admitted, eligibility to register as in-house counsel there.
• Approximately 3–4 years of post-JD experience.
• Proven experience in negotiating commercial contracts from start to finish for vendor, SaaS, marketing, and/or retailer agreements.
• Sound judgment regarding risk in fast-paced, high-pressure environments.
• Capability to independently resolve issues outside of one’s primary expertise.
• Proficient and thoughtful use of AI, with the ability to verify AI-generated outputs.
• Proactive safeguarding of confidential and privileged information.
• Exceptional organizational skills and management of multiple matters concurrently.
• Initiative and ability to propose effective solutions.
• Comfort in addressing unfamiliar legal issues through research and consultation.
• Understanding of margin, subscription economics, and business objectives.
• Litigation experience is a plus, but not mandatory.
• Entrepreneurial spirit is advantageous, but not required.
• Experience in Consumer Packaged Goods (CPG), Direct-to-Consumer (DTC), supplements, food and beverage, or advertising law is highly preferred.
