
Controller, Corporate Accounting – P&C Insurance

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +15 more states.
• Lead and manage the corporate accounting operations.
• Mentor team members, encourage collaboration, and cultivate high-performing remote teams.
• Establish connections with internal departments beyond finance and articulate complex financial concepts with clarity.
• Collaborate with the external accounting firm to guide the annual audit and tax return preparation.
• Direct the monthly, quarterly, and yearly closing processes.
• Prepare financial statements for both internal and external stakeholders in accordance with GAAP.
• Review reconciliations for bank accounts and other balance-sheet items, including ADP payroll and equity transactions.
• Design and execute accounting processes, procedures, systems, and internal controls.
• Ensure effective operation of accounting controls while maintaining security and continuity.
• Spearhead the automation of ADP, Concur, and IMS financial platforms into NetSuite.
• Manage relationships with external consultants, vendors, and service providers.
• Oversee accounts payable for vendor and employee expense accounts through reporting.
• Supervise the preparation of monthly financial statements and ensure GAAP compliance for business units.
• Generate business reports, financial forecasts, and financial statements.
• Prepare and present KPIs related to closing processes and reconciliations.
• Monitor vendor relationships, associated costs, service requirements, and overall value.
• Oversee US GAAP financial statement filings.
• Manage the compliance filing, preparation, and distribution of 1099 forms.
• Adhere to local, state, and federal reporting requirements and tax filings.
• 15+ years of experience in the accounting or finance sector.
• Experience in the insurance industry is mandatory.
• A Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance or equivalent experience is required.
• CPA certification is essential.
• Proficient in NetSuite, IMS, Concur, banking systems, and other accounting and finance software.
• Strong skills in Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with MS Teams and Slack.
• Reliable high-speed internet connection is required.
• A designated quiet workspace for remote work is necessary.
• Experience in hiring and leading accounting professionals across various levels of expertise.
• Ability to navigate through multiple technology platforms.
• Capable of identifying inaccurate or anomalous figures and data.
• Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
• Proven project leadership experience, including delegating tasks according to skillsets.
• Strong analytical problem-solving capabilities.
• Ability to meet deadlines while ensuring data accuracy.
