Contract Staff Software Engineer – Firefox Layout

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.

📋 Description

• Engage in ongoing maintenance and routine engineering tasks within Firefox’s Layout domain, encompassing CSS, page layout, APZ, text, and images.

• Take ownership of daily Layout maintenance by addressing bugs and regressions, ensuring tests remain successful, and managing incoming issues.

• Identify and resolve Layout issues across various platforms including Windows, macOS, Linux, and Android.

• Conduct code reviews and routine maintenance to allow full-time engineers to concentrate on mission-critical initiatives.

• Participate in planning and standards/web compatibility meetings as required.

• Sustain a robust Layout environment while minimizing backlog and regressions, enabling senior engineers to focus on Performance and Security challenges.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in C++ (knowledge of JavaScript and/or Rust is a plus).

• Strong understanding of CSS and page layout principles.

• Excellent debugging and optimization skills within a multithreaded codebase.

• Capable of working independently and providing technical leadership within a large, established codebase.

• Previous experience in web browser architecture and development is preferred.

• Familiarity with web standards is preferred.

• Skills in mobile web development, profiling, and debugging are advantageous.

• Proven experience utilizing AI tools (such as Claude, ChatGPT, etc.) for investigation, development, debugging, and/or testing of code is a plus.
