Contract Senior Software Engineer – WebGPU, Firefox, Gecko, Rust

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States, +1 more country.

📋 Description

• Address and resolve prioritized correctness and validation issues from the wgpu "WebGPU for Firefox" initiative, along with bugs reported by security and fuzzer tools.

• Identify and rectify application blockers, including real applications and demos that are currently non-functional in Firefox Nightly.

• Analyze and resolve failures within the WebGPU conformance test suite (CTS).

• Develop and execute tests, engage in code reviews with wgpu maintainers and Gecko module owners, and implement fixes in the upstream repository.

• Collaborate with the Firefox WebGPU team to determine task selection and prioritization.

• Provide reviewed fixes that are successfully integrated into wgpu and Gecko, accompanied by tests, thereby decreasing the P2/P3 backlog, resolving application blockers, and addressing CTS failures for WebGPU on Linux and Android.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in Rust programming language.

• Experience working within a large systems or graphics codebase, with the capability to quickly acclimatize to wgpu.

• Comfortable contributing upstream in an open-source environment (including public issue tracking and code reviews).

• Strong debugging abilities (including validation bugs, edge cases, and fuzzing results).

• Prior contributions to wgpu are preferred, as they allow for a faster onboarding process for the team.

• Familiarity with WebGPU, graphics, or GPU technologies is preferred.

• Experience with Vulkan, DirectX/D3D 11/12, and Metal is preferred.

• Knowledge of WGSL, HLSL, MSL, and SPIR-V is preferred.

• Low-level experience with Android graphics is preferred.

• Background in security or fuzzing, along with understanding the Web security model, is preferred.
