This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Mexico.
• Participate as a key member of the Mexico Executive Team, reporting directly to the Country Program Director.
• Collaborate closely with Conservation Directors and leaders throughout the Latin America Region.
• Ensure that the Mexico program effectively supports TNC’s 2030 Outcomes.
• Spearhead conservation initiatives in Selva Maya, the Mesoamerican Reef, and national programs related to protected areas, regenerative ranching and agriculture, and large-scale fisheries.
• Lead a team of specialists and work in partnership with TNC teams and external stakeholders, including the private sector, government entities, and civil society organizations.
• Develop transformative strategies and guide teams towards successful implementation.
• Assist the Mexico Director in defining conservation strategies, actionable roadmaps, partnerships, and systemic changes.
• Foster a sense of shared ownership of TNC’s conservation agenda and tools.
• Monitor conservation outcomes utilizing adaptive management and accountability for results.
• Build, manage, retain, coach, and develop a high-performing team; oversee performance management, engagement, training, and career development initiatives.
• Administer internal information systems to document progress and lessons learned.
• Support the preparation of annual and multi-year full-cost budgets and ensure effective budget oversight.
• Oversee conservation and governance aspects of on-site initiatives, including financial planning, monitoring, evaluation, and budget tracking.
• Lead and coordinate proposals for public and private financing.
• Articulate TNC’s mission and conservation priorities to donors, partners, board members, and other stakeholders through presentations and reports.
• Direct, prepare, present, and engage in negotiations of project proposals with governmental, bilateral, and multilateral agencies.
• Serve as Deputy Director for the BU Director as required.
• Bachelor's degree required.
• More than 8 years of experience in similar roles, including leadership experience in the conservation sector and/or non-profit organizations.
• Exceptional supervisory experience, including the ability to motivate, lead, set objectives, and manage performance in multidisciplinary teams.
• Proven track record in sustainable development and environmental issues, encompassing forest conservation, regenerative ranching and agriculture, community conservation, fisheries, natural protected areas, and/or integrated landscape management in Mexico with NGOs, private, or public entities.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills in both Spanish and English for diverse audiences.
• Experience in fundraising, including identifying potential donors, engaging with them, and crafting compelling proposals.
• Proven experience collaborating with private sector, non-governmental, and community-based organizations as well as public authorities.
• Experience in designing, implementing, and directing complex or multiple strategically significant projects, including financial management, supervising multidisciplinary professionals, and coordinating partners while adhering to deadlines.
• Preferred: 10 years of professional experience with a demonstrated ability to lead environmental and conservation initiatives in large and complex programs with measurable outcomes in Mexico.
• Proven success as an inspiring and innovative leader of multidisciplinary teams, including the ability to influence without direct authority.
• Experience working within a matrixed, decentralized, and geographically dispersed organization.
• Strong technical skills, analytical capability, sound judgment, and a strong operational focus.
• Demonstrated operational, implementation, and detail-oriented mindset.
• Proactive understanding of systems change methodologies.
