Commercial Tire Technician

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alaska.

📋 Description

• Conduct mobile field service, including repair, replacement, mounting, dismounting, and installation of commercial tires.

• Service tires for commercial trucks, tractors, trailers, buses, construction machinery, industrial equipment, and other heavy-duty vehicles.

• Diagnose tire failures, air leaks, valve and wheel issues, irregular wear, and various tire-related concerns.

• Execute tire repairs in accordance with industry standards and company protocols.

• Inspect tires, wheels, rims, valve assemblies, and related components for damage, wear, and unsafe conditions.

• Inflate tires to specified pressures and confirm serviceability before returning equipment to operation.

• Perform roadside and field-service calls at customer facilities, job sites, terminals, yards, highways, and remote locations in Alaska.

• Safely operate service trucks, tire-handling equipment, jacks, impact tools, compressors, hydraulic machinery, and other tire-service tools.

• Maintain service vehicles, tools, equipment, and tire inventory in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.

• Accurately and promptly complete work orders, inspection documentation, service records, customer paperwork, and other required documentation.

• Communicate professionally with customers, dispatch, supervisors, drivers, and other personnel.

• Adhere to company safety policies, customer site requirements, and applicable DOT/OSHA safety regulations.

• Maintain safe work zones around disabled or stationary equipment using warning devices and traffic-control equipment.

• Travel throughout Alaska for both scheduled and unscheduled field-service needs.

• Work independently in remote areas and respond to irregular schedules, emergency calls, weekends, holidays, and after-hours service requirements.

• Carry out other tire, fleet, shop, or field-service tasks as assigned.

⛳️ Requirements

• Valid driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

• Preferred experience in commercial tire service, automotive tire service, heavy-equipment maintenance, mechanical work, or similar hands-on roles.

• Willingness and ability to travel statewide throughout Alaska.

• Capability to safely perform physically demanding work outdoors in Alaskan conditions.

• Mechanical aptitude with the ability to safely operate pneumatic, hydraulic, and hand tools.

• Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in field-service scenarios.

• Strong commitment to safety in the workplace and on the roadside.

• Effective communication skills with customers, drivers, supervisors, and coworkers.

• Capability to follow written procedures, work orders, manufacturer specifications, and safety guidelines.

• Reliable attendance and a willingness to work flexible hours based on customer and operational demands.

• Previous experience in commercial truck tire service or OTR tire service is preferred.

• Experience servicing heavy trucks, trailers, construction equipment, loaders, forklifts, or other industrial machinery is preferred.

• Experience performing roadside commercial tire service is preferred.

• Tire Industry Association (TIA) Commercial Tire Service certification or equivalent training is preferred.

• CDL or experience operating larger commercial service vehicles is preferred.

• Experience working in remote Alaska or North Slope environments is preferred.

• Ability to frequently lift, carry, push, pull, position, and manipulate heavy tires, wheels, tools, and equipment.

• Ability to frequently bend, kneel, squat, crawl, climb, reach, and work from awkward positions.

• Ability to safely use mechanical and hydraulic lifting equipment when handling tires and wheel assemblies exceeding safe manual-handling limits.

• Ability to work on uneven, icy, snowy, muddy, or otherwise challenging surfaces.

• Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in extreme temperatures and adverse weather conditions.

• Ability to safely enter and exit service vehicles, trucks, trailers, and equipment.

• Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).

• Ability to adhere to established procedures for tire inflation, wheel and rim servicing, lifting and supporting vehicles, lockout/tagout when applicable, roadside work, and operation of service equipment.

• Ability to identify unsafe tire, wheel, and rim conditions and halt work when a condition cannot be safely serviced.
