This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Pennsylvania.
• Act as a key contact between Penn National Insurance and agents.
• Foster and manage relationships with agents, regional underwriting teams, and corporate departments.
• Evaluate agent strengths and weaknesses to support profitable growth in premium volume and policy count.
• Ensure agents are well-informed about commercial lines initiatives, products, policies, procedures, and services.
• Spearhead commercial lines agency prospecting, planning, and management initiatives.
• Collaborate with and assist Underwriters and RVPs in making decisions for small business and mid-market segments.
• Conduct limited direct underwriting for small commercial new business as directed.
• Cultivate agency forces to pre-qualify, rate, and bind profitable commercial lines business.
• Assess prospective agents and submit written recommendations to the Regional Vice President.
• Monitor agency performance, growth, profitability, and adherence to company initiatives, procedures, and policies.
• Share pertinent industry insights, innovative ideas, products, and changes in competitor philosophies.
• Engage in ongoing agency prospecting within Eastern PA.
• Partake in commercial lines rate reviews.
• Make underwriting decisions within designated authority and promote initiatives to enhance ease of business operations.
• Analyze commercial lines books of business for profitability assessment.
• Develop and implement plans and actions to enhance agency profitability.
• Facilitate agency evaluations and corrective measures with team members.
• Provide training for agencies on programs, products, services, and systems.
• Create annual marketing plans for the agency/company.
• Analyze profitability, premium growth, and agency representation in the territory.
• Collect, compile, manipulate, and analyze data to address business challenges.
• Execute other responsibilities as assigned by the President-Partners Mutual or Regional Vice President.
• A four-year college degree is preferred.
• Continuing education in specialized insurance courses such as IIA, AU, CPCU, and CIC is preferred.
• Maintenance of a current agent’s P&C license in the domiciled state is preferred.
• A minimum of three years of experience in property/casualty commercial lines underwriting and/or marketing with a Property and Casualty carrier is preferred.
• Experience in an agency or brokerage setting with a strong focus on underwriting exposure/risk and marketing may substitute for carrier experience.
• Technical underwriting knowledge of the commercial lines of business offered by Penn National Insurance.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including the ability to convey highly technical information.
• Demonstrated sales, negotiation, and solution-selling abilities.
• Familiarity with agency and company automation systems.
• Basic personal computer proficiency, particularly with the Microsoft Office Suite.
• Outstanding customer service capabilities.
• Strong financial analysis skills.
• Excellent time management abilities.
• Proficient in commercial lines underwriting analysis.
• Capacity to effectively use and view a computer monitor.
• Ability to operate a computer, keyboard, printers, and general office equipment.
• Skill in accessing and entering information accurately using automated systems.
• Ability to communicate and hear through telephone or monitoring devices.
• Competence in presenting information to individuals and groups.
• Capability to interpret and apply concepts that may or may not follow established guidelines.
• Ability to maintain acceptable attendance and adhere to scheduled work hours.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and capability to operate a motor vehicle.
• Willingness to travel, including overnight stays as required.
