This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Oversee and guide direct reports who support WEX’s Mobility lines of business in complex commercial transactions as well as product development and launches across the Americas.
• Offer strategic and tactical legal counsel to commercial, digital, and marketing teams.
• Collaborate with finance, operations, compliance, and various corporate functions, including outside counsel.
• Act as the senior legal advisor for WEX Mobility businesses throughout the Americas.
• Lead, mentor, and manage a team of legal professionals.
• Provide counsel to Mobility executives and cross-functional leaders in areas such as Product, Operations, Risk, Compliance, and Finance.
• Support strategic initiatives of the Legal Leadership Team.
• Engage, instruct, and supervise outside legal counsel.
• Draft, review, and negotiate intricate commercial agreements, including those related to customer credit, card programs, resellers, marketing, referrals, and technology.
• Facilitate legal due diligence and integration during M&A activities.
• Assist with high-stakes RFP responses and evaluate marketing initiatives.
• Spearhead process enhancements and maintain contract templates along with negotiation playbooks.
• Provide legal insights throughout the product development, launch, and technical evolution stages.
• Draft and uphold product-related terms, encompassing application and API terms, integration terms, and website terms of service.
• Identify, manage, and escalate business risks appropriately.
• Handle pre-litigation disputes and contractual inquiries from customers or partners.
• Juris Doctor (J.D.) is required.
• A minimum of 10 years of legal experience, preferably with in-house exposure.
• Must be licensed in at least one U.S. state.
• Experience in the payments and/or financial services sectors and familiarity with relevant laws and regulations.
• Proven track record in structuring, drafting, and negotiating complex commercial transactions, including those in financial services, digital payments, technology, and public sector fields.
• Understanding of both legal and practical aspects of a product life cycle, with experience in providing legal advice at every stage.
• Experience in managing and supervising personnel.
• Familiarity with legal matter management systems, contract lifecycle management systems, and AI tools and capabilities.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, alongside strong interpersonal abilities.
• Resourceful in problem-solving, detailed in analysis, and adept at issue resolution.
• Capability to comprehend complex commercial and product-related issues as well as business metrics.
• Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively.
• Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
