This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Colorado, +12 more states.
• Evaluate medical record documentation to extract and categorize diagnoses, procedures, and modifiers for statistical classification and reimbursement purposes.
• Execute coding tasks under the supervision of Coding Management.
• Provide insights regarding documentation and coding challenges.
• Utilize software applications and coding references to carry out coding-related activities.
• Ensure adherence to Official Coding Guidelines.
• Code inpatient accounts, including ICD-10-CM diagnosis coding, PCS, and DRG coding.
• Draft physician queries.
• Code intricate inpatient, observation, surgical, and procedural segments.
• Conduct ICD-10-CM diagnosis coding and CPT procedure coding.
• Achieve or surpass coding productivity, accuracy, and timeliness benchmarks.
• Submit a complete and precise weekly production report.
• Engage in coder and provider education and documentation enhancement initiatives.
• Collaborate with providers, nursing personnel, and designated departments.
• Assist with training and quality assurance across all coding tiers.
• Complete mandatory coding training and assigned instructional coding tasks.
• Participate in departmental coding and educational meetings and discussions.
• Adhere to departmental protocols and Denver Health directives from Coding Management.
• Safeguard patient information confidentiality.
• Function as part of the coding team and bolster unit cohesion.
• Post High School Diploma or completion of a Certificate Program is mandatory.
• A minimum of five years of medical coding experience with multi-specialty exposure or specialty certification is required.
• At least two years of experience in an academic environment is essential.
• Proficiency across all major specialties is required.
• Strong procedural coding skills are necessary.
• Experience in reviewing DRG assignments is required.
• CCS-Certified Coding Specialist certification is a must.
• Advanced understanding of coding and compliance, including hospital-based teaching physician guidelines.
• Familiarity with encoder and data abstraction software is necessary.
• Strong knowledge of billing and reimbursement processes.
• Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
• Strong organizational skills alongside the capability to work independently and meet deadlines.
• Ability to think critically.
• Competence in reading and interpreting coding guidelines to make informed coding decisions.
• Familiarity with researching coding-related topics and issues.
• Ability to deliver professional presentations.
• Capacity to thrive in a fast-paced environment and serve as a positive role model.
• Must successfully complete a coding proficiency pre-hire test with a score of 85% or higher.
• Proficient computer keyboarding skills are required.
• Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite is essential.
• Experience with Epic is advantageous.
• Encoder experience is beneficial.
