Cloud Database Architect – PostgreSQL, Cloud Database Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Egypt, +4 more countries.

📋 Description

• Oversee and sustain PostgreSQL environments hosted in the cloud.

• Handle database configuration, parameter tuning, storage management, patching, and version upgrades.

• Administer, scale, and deploy relational databases in cloud platforms such as AWS RDS.

• Design and manage database access layers, roles, privileges, connection pooling, authentication, and least-privilege access frameworks.

• Lead projects involving database and cloud migration from initial planning to cutover and post-migration optimization.

• Scale distributed PostgreSQL environments and ensure replication, clustering, and multi-node configurations are maintained.

• Enhance query performance, optimize resource utilization, manage storage, and control database-related expenses.

• Implement backup strategies, including snapshots, point-in-time recovery, and recovery processes.

• Monitor database health, performance, and capacity; respond to incidents and perform root-cause analysis.

• Engage in on-call support duties.

• Uphold database security measures, including encryption, network isolation, and access controls.

• Develop technical runbooks, document governance policies, and sustain change-management processes.

• Collaborate with engineering teams on capacity planning and ensuring platform stability.

• Utilize AI tools within established governance frameworks and confirm that database access is routed through sanctioned API endpoints and MCPs.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 7 years of practical experience in PostgreSQL administration.

• Extensive and specialized expertise in PostgreSQL.

• Significant experience in managing, scaling, and deploying relational databases in cloud environments like AWS RDS.

• Proven track record in leading and successfully executing database and cloud migration initiatives.

• Established experience in scaling production database environments.

• Familiarity with multi-node database configurations, including replication, clustering, and high availability.

• Experience in designing database access layers and implementing governance frameworks.

• Comprehensive knowledge of PostgreSQL administration, configuration, performance, and operational practices.

• Strong grasp of database system theory and core computer science principles.

• Proficient in cloud database management and deployment practices.

• Background in database performance optimization, focusing on indexing, vacuuming, query efficiency, resource utilization, storage, and parameter tuning.

• Experience in implementing database backup, snapshot, point-in-time, and recovery strategies.

• Knowledge of database security, encryption, network isolation, and access control methodologies.

• Scripting skills in Bash, Python, or similar languages for administrative automation.

• Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools like Terraform or similar technologies.

• Ability to integrate AI into daily engineering workflows, critically reviewing outputs and adhering to defined governance protocols.

• Availability to work from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM EST.
