This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Assist in the Property Claims operation by managing complex claims reported under Homeowner policies issued by the Interinsurance Exchange.
• Analyze First Notice of Loss reports.
• Perform loss investigations, assess coverage and damages, create negotiation strategies, and settle claims.
• Gather and secure statements from insured individuals, claimants, and witnesses.
• Conduct telephone investigations to evaluate coverage and damages while differentiating between allegations and facts.
• Assess policy obligations by analyzing liability and damage components.
• Maintain appropriate activity levels and service standards.
• Communicate effectively with members, insured parties, claimants, vendors, and both internal and external departments.
• Articulate policy coverages, benefits, and claims processes clearly, both verbally and in writing.
• Identify and address intricate coverage and subrogation matters.
• Evaluate, review, and negotiate first-party claim settlements within the established settlement authority across various markets.
• Assess personal property, property damage, coverage issues, loss of use, arbitration responses, damage evaluations, and utilize claims technology/tools.
• Identify and address potential issues that may arise during an audit.
• Mentor and assist in training less experienced staff and provide coaching on case files.
• Attend and engage in legal proceedings.
• Collaborate with in-house and external counsel on litigated files.
• Deliver sworn expert testimony in courtroom or deposition contexts.
• Prepare detailed formal reports on high-profile claims for senior management review.
• Respond promptly to customer inquiries and issues.
• 7-9 years of prior experience in claims handling (Required).
• Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (Preferred).
• 7-9 years of experience in property claims administration (Preferred).
• Proficient understanding of claims administration best practices and procedures.
• Advanced knowledge of insurance principles, coverage investigation, scope and damage assessment, negligence, and subrogation concepts.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office suite, general computer software, and claims software.
• In-depth comprehension of building and vehicle repair processes and third-party liability issues.
• Strong leadership skills among colleagues.
• Excellent organizational and planning skills.
• Superior oral and written communication abilities.
• Strong interpersonal skills.
• Valid Driver's License, satisfactory Department of Motor Vehicles record, and minimum liability insurance as mandated by the State (Required).
• Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter certification (Preferred).
• Associate in Claims certification (Preferred).
• An insurance/claims adjuster license may be necessary for claims administration in certain states.
