This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California, +3 more states.
• Act as the civil engineering subject matter expert, defining and integrating civil construction activities.
• Create effective civil work solutions tailored to project specifications, field conditions, construction methodologies, and equipment capabilities.
• Outline construction sequences that encompass excavation, grading, trenching, earthmoving, material handling, and site activities.
• Assess equipment and technology options against construction requirements, production goals, limitations, tolerances, and site constraints.
• Recognize discrepancies between technical capabilities and construction demands, developing practical solutions with both internal and external teams.
• Coordinate various construction technologies, equipment platforms, and operational processes into comprehensive civil works solutions.
• Specify operational interfaces and dependencies among equipment and technology solutions.
• Collaborate with engineering, product, technology, operations, construction, and external solution providers to convert field requirements into technical and operational specifications.
• Formulate and uphold project plans, milestones, schedules, deliverables, and implementation strategies.
• Monitor development and delivery timelines for equipment, automation, and technology solutions.
• Manage workstream dependencies to ensure timely delivery of solutions in the correct sequence.
• Identify project risks and devise mitigation strategies.
• Facilitate cross-functional progress and issue-resolution meetings.
• Provide updates on project status, milestones, risks, dependencies, and solution readiness.
• Validate solutions within civil construction settings and engage in field testing, demonstrations, pilots, and solution validation.
• Assess field performance and suggest enhancements.
• Assist with construction methodologies, workflows, and operating procedures for new technologies.
• Review and implement automation technologies within civil construction workflows.
• Work alongside partners developing autonomous or semi-autonomous construction equipment.
• Incorporate automated or technology-enabled systems into synchronized construction operations.
• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering.
• Over 7 years of progressive experience in civil engineering, heavy civil construction, site development, infrastructure, or similar construction environments.
• Strong practical knowledge of civil construction means and methods.
• Proven understanding of construction sequencing and the interdependencies between civil work activities.
• Experience in earthwork, excavation, grading, trenching, underground utilities, site preparation, or comparable civil construction operations.
• Proven track record in managing engineering, construction, technical, or multidisciplinary projects.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, construction plans, and technical requirements.
• Solid understanding of constructability and field execution.
• Capacity to coordinate multiple technical teams, vendors, contractors, and stakeholders.
• Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Preferred: experience with construction automation, industrial automation, robotics, autonomous equipment, or technology-enabled construction.
• Preferred: experience in integrating multiple equipment or technology platforms into comprehensive operational solutions.
• Preferred: experience with automated or autonomous dozers, excavators, earthmoving equipment, or similar heavy construction machinery.
• Preferred: experience with material-handling systems or material movement operations.
• Preferred: background in large-scale industrial, infrastructure, manufacturing, technology, or complex construction settings.
• Preferred: experience with equipment manufacturers, technology developers, systems integrators, or construction technology firms.
• Preferred: broad understanding of automation technologies, robotics, actuators, sensors, and geolocalization technologies.
• Preferred: familiarity with project controls, milestone tracking, scheduling, and technical program management.
• PE licensure is advantageous but not mandatory.
• Expected travel is approximately 30%.
• Must be comfortable working directly in active construction and civil works environments when onsite.
