This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Take charge of Kodama’s technical strategy and engineering roadmap.

• Guide and support a diverse team of five software engineers and two hardware engineers.

• Spearhead the development and deployment of progressively autonomous features on heavy machinery in production.

• Oversee the creation of safety-critical systems as autonomy evolves.

• Act as a representative of Kodama’s technology to investors, OEM partners, and other external stakeholders.

• Facilitate the transition from production teleoperation to full autonomy.

• Establish the direction for autonomy and safety systems.

• Cultivate a robust engineering team and influence the products that Kodama develops.

⛳️ Requirements

• Extensive experience with autonomous vehicles, machinery, or mobile robotics.

• Proven track record in leading and developing highly skilled senior and staff engineers.

• Strong discernment regarding the trade-offs necessary to deliver reliable robotic systems in real-world settings.

• Capable of articulating a clear technical vision to both internal and external audiences.

• Possess low ego, high ownership, intellectual honesty, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.

• Especially advantageous: experience in outdoor or off-road autonomy.

• Particularly beneficial: knowledge of modern learning-based robotics, such as world models, robot foundation models, generative policies, imitation learning, or reinforcement learning.

• Highly valuable: experience with safety-critical robotic or vehicle systems.

• Particularly relevant: prior roles as CTO, VP of Engineering, senior engineering leader, or technical founder in a robotics or autonomous-systems company.

• Executive-level experience is preferred; no specific years or educational credentials required.
