This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Establish the finance function as the inaugural in-house finance leader.
• Report directly to the CEO and collaborate closely with the CEO, President, leadership team, and sponsors.
• Take ownership of FP&A, cash management, operating metrics, finance systems, and decision support.
• Manage financial modeling, forecasting, and the annual budgeting cycle.
• Partner with leadership to assess, refine, and monitor the annual value creation plan.
• Convert financial analysis into actionable recommendations regarding growth investments, pricing strategies, packaging, and resource allocation.
• Define and monitor KPIs such as gross revenue retention, net revenue retention, renewals, and customer revenue trends.
• Create and oversee a rolling 13-week cash forecast, burn rate, liquidity, and spending management.
• Enhance monthly financial processes and establish best practices for controllership and financial management.
• Strengthen spend approvals, cash controls, financial accountability, risk management, and compliance practices.
• Supervise outsourced accounting, ensure precise accrual-based reporting, and assist in building the finance team.
• Review billing and revenue recognition processes and implement necessary controls.
• Develop weekly, monthly, and quarterly reporting, including a monthly operating pack.
• Co-create board reporting materials and provide financial inputs for quarterly board presentations.
• Construct an operating KPI dashboard, ensuring accurate data, definitions, and reconciliations.
• Assess potential improvements or migrations in finance systems.
• Support the implementation of payroll and spend systems, including Rippling and Ramp.
• Leverage AI and automation to enhance finance and HR workflows while ensuring output validation and data protection.
• Advise the executive team on financial trade-offs.
• Assist with payroll, benefits, compensation planning, recruiting operations, and employment compliance.
• Help facilitate board and private equity investor relations.
• Support M&A analysis, financial tracking, integration efforts, growth initiatives, and eventual exit preparation.
• Approximately 7–10+ years of progressive finance leadership experience in a CFO role or relevant professional services environment.
• Significant experience in FP&A, cash forecasting, and financial modeling.
• Finance background in a SaaS or similar subscription software/data business.
• Solid understanding of retention, renewal, and recurring-revenue metrics.
• Proven experience in building or significantly enhancing finance processes, reporting, controls, or systems in a lean environment.
• Strong foundational knowledge in accounting and controllership.
• Experience overseeing billing, revenue recognition, financial controls, risk/compliance practices, and ensuring accurate financial reporting.
• Hands-on experience or meaningful experimentation with AI and automation technologies.
• Ability to articulate personally developed, tested, and refined AI or automation workflows.
• Experience working collaboratively with executive leadership and effectively communicating financial analysis in written and presentation formats.
• Preferred experience in FinTech, mortgage technology, lending technology, or adjacent financial data sectors.
• Experience with private equity portfolio companies and contributions to board reporting materials preferred.
• Prior CFO experience is preferred, though strong candidates looking to step up in finance leadership are welcome.
• Preferred experience with M&A, post-merger integration, company growth, and exit preparation.
• Familiarity with QuickBooks, subscription billing platforms, Rippling, Ramp, or similar systems is preferred.
• Preference for candidates located in the Chicago area, although residency and relocation are not mandatory.
• Capability to complete the selection process, including a finance case study; a non-disclosure agreement is required prior to the case-study stage.
