Chief Engineer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Act as the Chief Engineer and the senior engineering authority for ESCS.

• Ensure the continuity of technical direction and transform program intent into a production-ready delivery path.

• Take ownership of the integrity of the overall engineering solution.

• Lead technical governance across applications, integration, data, cloud, security, testing, and operational readiness.

• Serve as the principal technical liaison to program leadership.

• Establish engineering direction, technical guardrails, and decision pathways across capability teams and suppliers.

• Guarantee that prototypes, demonstrations, and IRAD outputs have a credible pathway to secure, scalable, and supportable production delivery.

• Offer independent technical judgment on delivery, cost, schedule, risk, and customer outcome trade-offs.

• Own the ESCS engineering strategy, technical baseline, engineering management plan, and technical decision record.

• Lead multidisciplinary engineering efforts spanning architecture, software, integration, data, cloud infrastructure, security, testing, and service readiness.

• Convert customer outcomes and operational scenarios into technical priorities, increments, and engineering acceptance criteria.

• Chair technical and design reviews, ensuring designs, interfaces, and non-functional requirements are met.

• Maintain technical authority over solution integrity, configuration, interfaces, technical debt, and engineering risks.

• Identify necessary skills, supplier inputs, dependencies, assumptions, and assurance evidence.

• Align technical estimates, WBS/PBS content, resource assumptions, and technical milestones with the integrated program plan.

• Promote repeatable deployment, automated testing, configuration management, observability, security, and documentation practices.

• Provide technical coaching and delegated authority while maintaining accountability for the overall engineering solution.

• Support customer demonstrations, bids, and investment decisions with evidence of feasibility, maturity, and residual risk.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proven leadership as a Chief Engineer or senior technical authority.

• Expertise in systems engineering and lifecycle assurance.

• Experience in enterprise and solution architecture.

• Knowledge of COTS and SaaS integration.

• Proficiency in API, event, and data-flow architecture.

• Familiarity with cloud-native engineering, Infrastructure as Code, and DevSecOps.

• Understanding of non-functional requirements, security, and operational readiness.

• Skills in technical baseline, configuration, and interface management.

• Competence in technical planning, estimation, risk, and design governance.

• Leadership experience with senior stakeholders, suppliers, and multidisciplinary engineering teams.

• Technical authority or engineering leadership experience in complex systems integration or enterprise platform delivery.

• Capability in leading engineering across multiple disciplines rather than being confined to a single technology domain.

• Ability to maintain end-to-end solution integrity through design, build, integration, verification, and transition.

• Experience in converting discovery, prototype, or demonstration outputs into a reliable production delivery path.

• Skill in influencing senior stakeholders while remaining close enough to delivery to address technical constraints.

• Ability to produce and validate technical documentation, estimates, design evidence, and acceptance artifacts.

• SC clearance is required to start and necessary for the role.
