This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Texas.
• Review documentation submitted by medical personnel and patient caregivers on a daily basis.
• Verify that clinical information is precise and comprehensive for illness severity, mortality risk, DRG, and hospital outcomes reporting.
• Initiate compliant verbal and written inquiries to clarify the documentation in medical records.
• Perform follow-up assessments to ensure the completeness and consistency of care levels.
• Monitor and escalate HAC and HARM quality metrics.
• Support clinical validation reviews for denials and appeals.
• Collaborate with the CDI supervisor on strategies for provider education.
• Aid in mentoring or training new Clinical Documentation Integrity Specialists.
• Analyze data and report quality concerns to the CDI Supervisor.
• Assist in achieving organizational unbilled goals for Accounts Receivable with uncoded accounts.
• Uphold strict confidentiality standards.
• Execute other assigned responsibilities.
• Familiarity with Official Guidelines for coding and reporting.
• Understanding of medical terminology, human anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology.
• Knowledge of disease pathology.
• Proficiency in ICD-10-CM/PCS.
• Awareness of DRG payor regulations, documentation opportunities, and clinical documentation prerequisites.
• Capability to interpret data for enhancing documentation practices.
• Familiarity with standard business equipment in both remote and office settings.
• Proficient in using office software, coding software, billing software, and abstracting systems.
• Knowledge of coding resources with demonstrated proficiency in utilizing them.
• Ability to resolve basic technical issues.
• Effective communication skills with providers and patient caregivers.
• Required qualifications: RN, RHIT, RHIA, CDIP, or CCDS.
• High School Diploma or GED.
• Required clinical experience.
• Some experience in medical records abstraction and coding in an acute care environment is mandatory.
• Preference for candidates with EPIC and 3M encoder software experience.
