This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
β’ Develop and implement a national security-focused media messaging strategy for the Commission, including engagement on social media platforms.
β’ Provide guidance to senior staff regarding the Government's use of social media, addressing platform restrictions and data retention and preservation.
β’ Facilitate media engagement efforts to promote the final report, releases, and events.
β’ Offer strategic counsel on brand development, public positioning, visibility, reputation risk management, and media engagement.
β’ Conduct research on articles, reporters, and media outlets.
β’ Lead the design and development of the AWC website and online presence utilizing WordPress, UX/UI, web design, and large-scale data visualization techniques.
β’ Manage AWC social media accounts and evaluate their performance.
β’ Create and implement digital newsletters and social media campaigns.
β’ Oversee the production of video, digital, graphic, infographic materials, and the final report.
β’ Prepare press kits, background documents, press releases, talking points, and presentations.
β’ Plan and coordinate hearings, press conferences, interviews, podcasts, conferences, forums, roundtables, media availabilities, and other public events.
β’ Address media inquiries and arrange interviews.
β’ Provide media training for Commissioners and Commission staff.
β’ Monitor breaking news and offer response advice, media updates, and coverage analysis.
β’ Supervise charts, graphs, dashboards, timelines, maps, and other forms of data visualization.
β’ Manage the editing and validation of visualizations and collaborate with the designated print report publisher.
β’ A Bachelor's degree is required.
β’ Proficiency in WordPress platforms and expertise in interactive or illustrative techniques for large-scale data visualization.
β’ A minimum of 6 years of proven experience in media relations, content production (written, video, digital, graphic), event management, media training, and media analysis.
β’ Experience in engaging with the U.S. military, national security agencies, Congress, veteran communities, and both national and international media.
β’ Knowledge of and connections within the Afghanistan War, military affairs, veterans affairs, and foreign policy sectors.
β’ Comprehensive understanding of national security and foreign policy audiences.
β’ Proficient in current communications technologies and best practices.
