This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Lead the discovery and design of business processes through stakeholder interviews, workshops, observations, process walkthroughs, and collaborative design sessions.
• Analyze and document current-state business processes, encompassing activities, roles, handoffs, systems, data interactions, pain points, dependencies, controls, and exceptions.
• Design optimized future-state processes and workflows aimed at minimizing unnecessary complexity and enhancing efficiency.
• Create service blueprints and workflow models to serve as implementation guides for platform development teams.
• Model process activities, decision points, approvals, roles, business rules, handoffs, statuses, triggers, dependencies, exception paths, and escalation scenarios.
• Utilize BPMN and service design techniques to produce consistent, comprehensible, and implementation-ready process artifacts.
• Map interactions between users, business processes, data, systems, and supporting services across comprehensive workflows.
• Collaborate with Business Analysts and subject matter experts to ensure process designs align with business requirements, Federal financial processes, policies, controls, and operational needs.
• Challenge unnecessary legacy practices and differentiate business requirements from constraints imposed by legacy systems.
• Identify opportunities for process simplification, standardization, automation, and enhanced user experience.
• Work alongside solution architects, platform developers, and integration teams to guarantee designs are feasible within a configurable workflow platform.
• Refine process designs based on technical feasibility, stakeholder feedback, testing results, and changing business needs.
• Assist development and testing teams by clarifying process intent, workflow behavior, business rules, exception scenarios, and anticipated outcomes.
• Maintain process and service-design artifacts throughout the implementation phase.
• Support the implementation of a modernized financial and budget application for a federal client.
• Over 7 years of experience in Business Process Engineering, Service Design, Business Process Management, Process Improvement, or a related field, supporting complex enterprise transformation or technology initiatives.
• Proven experience in designing future-state business processes and workflow-driven solutions.
• Strong practical experience in developing business process models, workflow diagrams, and service blueprints.
• Familiarity with Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) or similar structured process-modeling methodologies.
• Experience in modeling intricate workflows that involve roles, approvals, decision points, business rules, controls, handoffs, systems, data, exceptions, and alternate process pathways.
• Ability to translate complex business operations into clear and detailed process designs that guide technical implementation.
• Experience facilitating process discovery, design, and future-state workshops with both business and technical stakeholders.
• Proven track record of identifying opportunities for process improvement, simplification, standardization, and automation.
• Experience in supporting Federal Government programs, systems, or modernization initiatives.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with Business Analysts, product/functional teams, architects, developers, and testers.
• Strong analytical, facilitation, visualization, communication, and problem-solving abilities.
• Must meet applicable Federal background investigation/security requirements.
• U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident status is required.
• Reliable internet service is essential for effective telecommuting on remote days.
• Preferred: experience in designing or modernizing financial management, budgeting, acquisition, planning, accounting, or related business processes.
• Preferred: experience with Federal PPBE, budget formulation, budget execution, acquisition planning, or IT investment management processes.
• Preferred: experience in supporting Department of Veterans Affairs programs, systems, or business processes.
• Preferred: experience in designing processes for configurable enterprise, workflow, ERP/EPM, financial, or low-code platforms.
• Preferred: experience with OneStream, ServiceNow, Appian, Salesforce, or similar workflow-driven platforms.
• Preferred: experience applying human-centered design or service-design methodologies, including journey mapping and service blueprinting.
• Preferred: experience with Visio, Lucidchart, Signavio, ARIS, or similar process modeling/design tools.
• Preferred: familiarity with Agile delivery, Jira, and Confluence.
• Preferred: relevant certification in BPM, Lean Six Sigma, Service Design, Human-Centered Design, or related fields.
