
Business Analyst, Zero Waste Chemical & Resource Management

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Michigan.
• Assist in the development, alignment, and annual update of global Zero Waste objectives, targets, and strategic plans.
• Manage Zero Waste performance dashboards and scorecards at the plant, regional, and corporate levels.
• Monitor site-level action plans, elevate gaps, and showcase best practices.
• Organize Zero Waste governance routines, including agendas, pre-read materials, action items, and follow-ups.
• Aid in the annual budgeting for Resource Management and Chemical Management in the US and Canada.
• Create and uphold budget tracking tools that connect forecasts, actual figures, and variances.
• Oversee purchase order requests, shopping carts, and change requests.
• Track purchase orders, goods receipts, and invoice discrepancies, resolving issues with Finance, Procurement, and suppliers.
• Conduct spend analyses that encompass cost drivers, savings realization, and scenario assessments.
• Assist in planning, approvals, tracking, and benefit realization for Zero Waste and environmental capital expenditures.
• Maintain a comprehensive view of Zero Waste and environmental investments.
• Support biological control responsibilities related to Metal Removal Fluids and the Metal Removal Fluids Strategy Team.
• Collaborate with plants, vendors, and technical experts to assess treatment performance and operational challenges.
• Identify opportunities for optimization in dosing, equipment, logistics, and supplier performance.
• Evaluate safety incidents, near misses, and risk identifications to uncover patterns and opportunities for risk reduction.
• Create visualizations, summaries, reports, dashboards, and recommendations for SP2 leadership and stakeholders.
• Compile and analyze waste, recycling, and diversion data across various sites.
• Stay updated on industry trends, regulatory changes, emerging technologies, and service models.
• Assist in pilot programs, technology assessments, KPI design, and reporting of results.
• Provide benchmarking against peer companies and leading service models.
• Maintain documentation, standards, procedures, playbooks, training materials, meeting notes, and decision logs.
• Develop and enhance common processes, templates, and tools.
• Ensure compliance with GM safety, compliance, and information management standards.
• Coordinate cross-functional working sessions, workshops, and forums for knowledge sharing.
• Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Business, Data Analytics, or a related field.
• Over 5 years of experience in business analysis, data analytics, operations, EH&S, environmental programs, or a related area.
• Proven experience in data analysis and reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
• Familiarity with Power BI or similar analytical tools is advantageous.
• Experience with budget support, forecasts, or financial tracking, including spend, variance analyses, or savings tracking.
• Knowledge of enterprise systems for purchase orders and invoices, such as SAP or an equivalent system.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking abilities.
• Capability to work with large datasets and multiple systems.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to distill complex subjects and influence stakeholders at various levels.
• Capacity to manage multiple priorities, adhere to deadlines, and ensure a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Preferred experience in waste management, resource management, chemical management, environmental engineering, or industrial operations.
• Familiarity with Zero Waste concepts, waste hierarchy, and recycling/landfill diversion strategies is preferred.
• Preferred experience in safety data and risk-reduction initiatives.
• Knowledge of biological treatment or biological control applications is advantageous.
• Previous experience with manufacturing plants, logistics providers, or environmental service suppliers is preferred.
• Ability to create or enhance business processes, templates, and governance routines is desirable.
• Must not require immigration sponsorship from GM currently or in the future.
• The selected candidate will need to travel less than 25% of the time.
