This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.
• Engage in wildland fire operations, encompassing ignition, control, mop-up, suppression, and monitoring activities.
• Collaborate as part of a 3-person squad affiliated with the Talladega and Shoal Creek Ranger Districts within the Talladega National Forest.
• Conduct fire-line preparation along with other designated wildland fire responsibilities.
• Supervise post-burn activities to ensure safety and compliance.
• Stay informed about the latest burn techniques and equipment.
• Develop and uphold professional fire certification credentials.
• Foster and sustain relationships within the professional fire community as well as the local community.
• Engage in wildland fire suppression efforts alongside non-profit organizations, local fire departments, and various governmental and tribal agencies.
• Operate under the guidance of a Burn Crew Manager or another command position.
• Function in diverse weather conditions, remote locations, challenging and hazardous terrain, and physically demanding situations.
• High school diploma or equivalent qualification is required.
• Ability to obtain qualifications for Prescribed Fire Crew Member (RXCM) or Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2).
• Required training includes Introduction to ICS (I-100), Human Factors on the Fire Line (L-180), Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (S-190), Firefighting Training (S-130), and participation in one training burn supervised by a qualified FFT2.
• Must meet physical fitness standards set by the local Prescribed Fire Manager and the TNC Fire Management Manual.
• Experience with various types of equipment operation is essential.
• Must be able to secure any necessary licenses or certifications, such as First Aid and CPR.
• A valid driver's license is required.
• Adherence to TNC’s Auto Safety Program is mandatory.
• Completion of a Vehicle Use Agreement may include a review of motor vehicle records.
