Burn Crew Member

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama.

📋 Description

• Engage in wildland fire operations, encompassing ignition, control, mop-up, suppression, monitoring, and additional assigned responsibilities.

• Operate as part of a 3-member team linked to the Oakmulgee Ranger District within the Talladega National Forest.

• Establish fire lines and oversee activities following burns.

• Stay updated on the latest burn methodologies and equipment.

• Develop skills and sustain or enhance professional fire certification qualifications.

• Cultivate and sustain relationships within the professional fire community and the local area.

• Involve in wildland fire suppression efforts with nonprofits, local fire departments, and various agencies at local, state, federal, tribal, or Indigenous levels.

• Operate in diverse weather conditions, remote settings, challenging and hazardous terrains, and physically demanding situations.

• Function as a TNC employee or as a temporary employee of a partner organization when necessary.

• Work seasonally from January 4, 2027, to April 23, 2027.

⛳️ Requirements

• Possess a high school diploma or equivalent qualification.

• Ability to achieve qualifications for Prescribed Fire Crew Member (RXCM) or Fire Fighter Type 2 (FFT2).

• Required to obtain Introduction to ICS (I-100), Human Factors on the Fireline (L-180), Introduction to Wildland Fire Behavior (S-190), Firefighting Training (S-130), and complete one training burn under the supervision of a qualified FFT2.

• Must meet the physical fitness standards established by the local Prescribed Fire Manager and TNC Fire Management Manual.

• Experience in operating various types of equipment.

• Required to acquire any relevant licenses or certifications, such as First Aid and CPR.

• Hold a valid driver's license.

• Adhere to TNC’s Auto Safety Program.

• Complete a Vehicle Use Agreement.

• Successfully pass The Nature Conservancy's background screening process.
