Blog Editor – Functional Ecology

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United Kingdom.

📋 Description

• Collaborate with the current blog editor, Dr. Hugo Saiz.

• Commission, compose, edit, and publish scientifically sound, high-quality blog content for Functional Ecology.

• Commission or author at least 2–3 blog posts monthly, which may include posts by authors on recently published articles, blog series, and broader themes on trends, debates, or community-focused topics.

• Proofread and edit commissioned draft posts to ensure they meet quality standards and align with the blog’s style and tone.

• Optionally conduct author interviews for the journal’s YouTube and podcast platform.

• Assist with copy-editing research summaries on an as-needed basis.

• Discuss forthcoming content plans and brainstorm new ideas during quarterly online meetings with the Assistant Editor.

• Prepare ideas ahead of quarterly meetings.

• Provide copy for promoting blog posts on social media and actively support the promotion of social media posts.

• Represent the journal and blog at pertinent conferences, meetings, and workshops when attending.


⛳️ Requirements

• Expertise in ecology and evolutionary biology, with a focus on animal ecology; this may include an undergraduate or master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent practical experience.

• Exceptional written English skills.

• Clear and effective communication abilities.

• Sharp attention to detail.

• Strong organizational and project management capabilities.

• Ability to work autonomously as well as collaboratively within a team.

• Networking skills and a willingness to utilize them when developing topical blog posts.

• Capacity to identify gaps in current content and create new initiatives.

• Experience in writing for a scientific blog (preferred).

• Familiarity with social media platforms (preferred).

• Background in podcasting and video editing (preferred).

• A CV and cover letter of no more than 500 words required for application.
