This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Lead the development of technical solutions from concept to launch, which includes planning process flows and estimating time and complexity.
• Create and develop custom software based on ticket requirements.
• Establish standards for quality and guide junior engineers.
• Offer clear and constructive feedback during code reviews.
• Engage with clients, partners, product owners, and stakeholders to comprehend and clarify workflows and requirements.
• Identify and address development obstacles and issues promptly.
• Oversee processes, document information, and troubleshoot problems.
• Carry out other assigned responsibilities.
• Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of professional experience, Master’s degree with at least 2 years of experience, or a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Competence in Python programming.
• Intermediate-to-advanced experience in Linux environments, including compiling programs from source and performing text manipulations using pipes.
• Intermediate-to-advanced proficiency with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Familiarity with best practices in software engineering, including Git version control, unit testing, and documentation.
• Understanding of next-generation sequencing technologies and standard bioinformatics data formats like FASTQ, BAM, VCF, and GTF.
• Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Preferred: experience with cloud computing platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Preferred: knowledge of Atlassian suite tools including Jira, Confluence, and BitBucket.
• Preferred: familiarity with clinical genetics databases such as ClinVar and HGMD and HGVS sequence variant nomenclatures.
• Preferred: previous experience in biology and/or a grasp of mutation analysis.
• Preferred: experience in creating and managing Docker containers.
• Preferred: experience in API development.
• Preferred: familiarity with CI/CD tools like Bamboo, Jenkins, or AWS Code Pipeline.
