This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.
• Lead the development of technical solutions from concept to launch, including estimating time and complexity.
• Create and implement custom software based on ticket specifications.
• Establish team standards for excellence and provide mentorship to junior engineers.
• Deliver clear and constructive feedback during code reviews.
• Collaborate with clients, partners, product owners, and stakeholders to gather and clarify workflows and requirements.
• Identify development blockers and challenges for prompt resolution.
• Monitor processes and maintain accurate logs.
• Resolve issues as necessary.
• Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned.
• Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience, a Master's degree with at least 2 years of experience, or a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computer Science, or a related discipline.
• Strong proficiency in Python programming.
• Intermediate to advanced experience in Linux environments.
• Intermediate to advanced experience with relational databases such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, or Microsoft SQL Server.
• Familiarity with software engineering best practices, including Git version control, unit testing, and documentation.
• Understanding of next-generation sequencing technologies and standard bioinformatics data formats such as FASTQ, BAM, VCF, and GTF.
• Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Preferred: experience with AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
• Preferred: knowledge of Atlassian tools including Jira, Confluence, and BitBucket.
• Preferred: familiarity with clinical genetics databases such as ClinVar and HGMD, as well as HGVS sequence variant nomenclature.
• Preferred: prior biological experience or comprehension of mutation analysis.
• Preferred: experience in creating and managing Docker containers.
• Preferred: experience in developing APIs.
• Preferred: experience with CI/CD tools such as Bamboo, Jenkins, or AWS CodePipeline.
