This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Canada.
• Prepare and distribute regular metrics regarding media coverage, performance, and sentiment.
• Review and compile daily reports on relevant traditional media coverage.
• Draft and create press releases and other media-related materials.
• Track and address media relations inquiries.
• Monitor traditional and social media for emerging issues and breaking stories using Meltwater and other tools.
• Arrange and disseminate news alerts on evolving issues.
• Maintain the NPF media database.
• Create and schedule social media content for national channels and regional campaigns.
• Send email updates to approximately 20,000 Members via Mailchimp.
• Post ongoing content to the NPF website.
• Coordinate the Member Update approval process.
• Monitor social media channels daily to identify issues, trends, and opportunities.
• Provide backup support for rotational tasks.
• Attend and lead internal team meetings.
• Self-manage workflow and raise concerns or conflicts with proposed resolutions.
• Plan and participate in events to promote the NPF and foster relationships with Members.
• Provide communications support for initiatives from other NPF departments.
• Research, consult on, and document project strategies.
• Research, write, and review creative assets.
• Manage external product and service providers.
• Create surveys and compile data reports.
• Organize work priorities and maintain proper document filing.
• Suggest strategies to enhance team processes.
• Provide timely task updates via Teams and email.
• Upload Member Updates to the website.
• Develop creative ideas aligned with project goals.
• Support photography and imagery requirements.
• Coordinate video production, including scriptwriting and video story editing.
• Review the performance of creative assets.
• Conduct interviews with Members on various topics, including sensitive subjects.
• Diploma or degree in Communications, Public Relations, or a related field.
• 2+ years of relevant experience in corporate communications and media relations.
• Experience in project management and digital asset creation is an advantage.
• Bilingualism is a requirement.
• Strong understanding of the Canadian media landscape, media outlets, and emerging media trends.
• Awareness of government processes and policy issues.
• General knowledge of a unionized environment.
• General understanding of policing and political environments in Canada.
• Strong knowledge of social media environments, content guidelines, and technical changes.
• General understanding of social media and digital marketing.
• Highly proficient in Microsoft Office productivity tools.
• Familiarity with Mailchimp and WordPress.
• Familiarity with Meltwater or other media software is a plus.
• Strong research and outreach capabilities.
• Exceptional writing, proofreading, and editing skills.
• Excellent oral communication and presentation abilities.
• Capability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Respect for confidential information.
• Must be willing to travel 4–6 times per year.
• Must successfully pass a pre-employment criminal record check.
