BESS Engineer III

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Alabama, +43 more states.

📋 Description

• Act as a technical expert in BESS engineering aspects.

• Direct and oversee BESS design and engineering, ensuring adherence to contracts, utility standards, and AHJ mandates.

• Assess feasibility studies, site evaluations, and system sizing calculations.

• Provide technical contributions across electrical, civil, structural, SCADA, and HV engineering disciplines.

• Supervise Engineers of Record and external engineering collaborators.

• Collaborate with fire protection engineers and local fire authorities/AHJs.

• Create and evaluate technical specifications, drawings, and documentation for procurement activities.

• Offer technical guidance during procurement, encompassing vendor suggestions and drawing assessments.

• Work jointly with internal teams, vendors, and contractors to design, procure, install, and commission BESS systems.

• Manage system modeling, simulation, and analysis processes.

• Assist in construction by resolving field issues, providing design clarifications, and executing minor redesigns.

• Aid in testing, validation, commissioning, energization, and initial synchronization processes.

• Mentor junior engineers and project teams.

• Stay updated on industry trends, standards, and regulatory guidelines.

• Assist in business development through proposals, presentations, and technical consultations.

• Represent SOLV Engineering in meetings with customers and clients.

• Engage in regular team meetings and calls.

• Travel as needed to support project execution.

• Carry out other assigned duties.

⛳️ Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

• Over 3 years of electrical engineering experience focused on BESS, renewable energy, or power systems.

• Proficient in battery energy storage systems, including lithium-ion batteries, inverters, BMS, and grid interconnection technologies.

• Knowledgeable in BESS control strategies, algorithms, and optimization software.

• Skilled in power system analysis and simulation software, including PSS/E and PSCAD.

• Familiar with NEC, IEEE, IBC, ASCE, NESC, NFPA, and utility standards.

• Understanding of grid operations and regulatory frameworks, including FERC Order 841 and IEEE 1547.

• Acquainted with fire protection regulations, including UL9540, UL9540A, and NFPA855.

• Knowledge of SCADA and Energy Management Systems communication protocols, including IEC 61850.

• Experience in project management, including budgeting, scheduling, and risk assessment.

• Familiarity with EPC engineering workflows.

• Proficient in AutoCAD, Microsoft Office, and Bluebeam.

• Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred.

• Legally eligible to work in the U.S. without requiring employer sponsorship, now or in the future.
