Background Investigator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Successfully complete a comprehensive full-time training program for new Investigators lasting 6–7 weeks, both virtually and in-person, to achieve certification in the Federal Investigative Standards.

• Engage in daily travel to conduct in-person background investigations to assess the employment suitability of individuals seeking access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.

• Arrange and perform face-to-face interviews with subjects, their neighbors, employers, friends, and family members.

• Execute record searches at police departments, courthouses, educational institutions, financial organizations, and medical/mental health facilities.

• Clearly and concisely document acquired information using a government-issued computer system.

• Operate independently while also collaborating with a team of Investigators and a Field Manager.

⛳️ Requirements

• A minimum of 4 years of general work experience or a bachelor’s degree may be considered acceptable.

• Preference will be given to candidates with experience in conducting federal background investigations.

• Must be eligible to obtain and maintain a Top Secret clearance.

• An active federal background investigation with T5 adjudication is preferred.

• Must be a U.S. citizen.

• Willingness to travel locally and outside the primary work area as necessary.

• Temporary Duty Assignments or remote travel of 14–30 days away from home may be required.

• Residency within 20 miles of San Jose city center is mandatory.

• A valid driver's license and reliable transportation for full-time use are required.

• Adequate motor vehicle insurance is necessary.

• Typing skills must be accurate and efficient; a typing speed of 40+ WPM is recommended.

• Ability to work effectively across multiple computer programs simultaneously.

• Capability to speak for prolonged periods and hear adequately for in-person and telephone communications.

• Competence in recording, reading, and transcribing words and numbers accurately.

• Strong grammar and writing skills are essential.

• Professionalism in interaction, attendance, punctuality, attention to detail, and adherence to confidentiality, ethics, and integrity is required.

• Professional attire is expected.

• Physical ability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, stand for long durations, and drive in challenging or nighttime conditions.

• Proficiency in interacting professionally with a diverse range of individuals and personalities.

• Adaptability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment under remote supervision.

• Strong organizational, scheduling, and prioritization skills are necessary.

• Excellent writing and communication abilities are required.
