Background Investigator

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in California.

📋 Description

• Engage in daily travel to perform in-person background investigations aimed at assessing the employment suitability of individuals needing access to sensitive or classified U.S. Government information.

• Organize and conduct face-to-face interviews with subjects, neighbors, employers, and acquaintances.

• Execute record searches at police departments, courthouses, educational institutions, financial organizations, and medical/mental health facilities.

• Accurately document and report gathered information in a clear and concise manner using a government-issued computer system.

• Operate independently as well as collaboratively within an investigator team and alongside a Field Manager.

• Uphold confidentiality, ethics, integrity, professionalism, attendance, punctuality, and meticulous attention to detail throughout fieldwork.

⛳️ Requirements

• Must possess current credentials from DHS.

• A minimum of 4 years of general work experience along with a high school diploma is required.

• Must hold an active federal background investigation with a T5 adjudication or be eligible for Top Secret clearance.

• U.S. citizenship is mandatory.

• Must have an active NTS (National Training Standards) certification from NIT (New Investigator Training).

• Applicants should reside within 30 miles of El Centro.

• Temporary Duty Assignments and remote travel lasting between 14–30 days away from home may be required.

• Proficient typing skills are necessary; a typing speed of 40+ WPM is recommended.

• Ability to efficiently work across multiple computer programs at the same time.

• Strong grammar and writing skills are essential.

• High standards of confidentiality, ethics, and integrity are required.

• Capability to lift and move up to 10 pounds, climb stairs, walk extensively, and endure long periods of standing and sitting.

• A valid driver's license and consistent access to reliable transportation are necessary.

• Adequate motor vehicle insurance is required.

• Must be able to speak for extended durations and have sufficient hearing ability to communicate in person and over the phone.

• Proficiency in recording, reading, and transcribing words and numbers with a high degree of accuracy is required.

• Professional attire is mandatory.

• Ability to interact professionally with others and perform effectively under remote supervision is essential.

• Excellent skills in organization, scheduling, and prioritization are necessary.
