Backend Developer – Java, Spring Boot

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Croatia.

📋 Description

• Develop clean, maintainable, and efficient Java code utilizing Spring Boot.

• Create and sustain secure and reliable REST APIs along with backend services.

• Engage with PostgreSQL, Hibernate, database schemas, queries, indexes, migrations, and data models.

• Convert product and business requirements into dependable backend functionality.

• Design and maintain microservices within a distributed backend architecture.

• Implement third-party integrations, internal services, and other backend connections.

• Ensure data validation, edge-case handling, consistency, and accuracy.

• Write and uphold automated tests while collaborating with QA engineers.

• Take ownership of assigned backend features from implementation to testing and release.

• Collaborate with frontend teams, QA, DevOps, product management, design, and client-side stakeholders.

• Proactively identify unclear requirements, technical risks, dependencies, and potential issues.

• Join a client project anticipated to continue through February 2027.

⛳️ Requirements

• Over 3 years of professional experience in backend development.

• Strong practical expertise in modern Java development; Java 21 is preferred.

• Significant hands-on experience with Spring Boot.

• Practical knowledge of Hibernate / JPA.

• Solid understanding of PostgreSQL, relational databases, SQL, data modeling, and query performance.

• Experience in designing, implementing, testing, and consuming RESTful APIs.

• Familiarity with automated backend testing.

• Proficient with Git, pull requests, code reviews, and collaborative development processes.

• Knowledge of microservices and distributed systems.

• Experience with AWS or other cloud environments is advantageous; ECS/Fargate is particularly beneficial.

• Fluent professional English is required.

• Proficiency in Spanish is a significant advantage.

• Ability to independently manage assigned features and effectively communicate requirements, dependencies, and technical decisions.

• Experience in Fintech, SaaS, HR, Payroll, ERP, AI-enabled products, or complex enterprise platforms is a plus.

• Familiarity with Claude Code or similar AI-assisted development tools is an added advantage.
