Back-End Developer

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in South Africa.

📋 Description

• Create, develop, and sustain scalable backend applications and services.

• Build and uphold RESTful APIs and web services.

• Produce clean, maintainable, reusable, and well-documented code.

• Design, develop, and enhance databases and data-access layers.

• Integrate backend systems with external APIs, applications, and services.

• Implement controls for authentication, authorization, and data security.

• Diagnose, debug, and resolve application and production issues.

• Conduct unit, integration, and performance testing.

• Engage in code reviews and contribute to development standards and best practices.

• Collaborate with frontend developers on API and system integration.

• Assist CI/CD pipelines, deployments, and production environments with DevOps teams.

• Monitor application performance and identify areas for optimization.

• Contribute to system architecture, technical documentation, and solution design.

• Participate in Agile ceremonies, sprint planning, and technical discussions.

• Manage version control and development workflows using Git.

• Promote continuous improvement in development processes, tools, and technical standards.

⛳️ Requirements

• Proficient in one or more of the following: Java, C#, Python, Node.js, TypeScript, PHP.

• Experience in RESTful API development.

• Knowledge of web services and API integrations.

• Familiarity with microservices architecture.

• Understanding of authentication and authorization processes.

• Skills in API security and performance optimization.

• Experience with relational and/or NoSQL databases.

• Proficient in technologies such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server, MongoDB, or similar.

• Experience with Git and version control systems.

• Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines.

• Familiarity with Docker and containerization.

• Experience with Kubernetes is a plus.

• Knowledge of cloud platforms like AWS, Microsoft Azure, or Google Cloud.

• Experience with logging, monitoring, and application performance management.

• Bachelor's degree, diploma, or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field.

• Over 3 years of professional backend development experience.

• Strong background in developing backend applications and APIs.

• Experience in working with databases and data modeling.

• Familiarity with software development methodologies and Agile environments.

• Strong understanding of software development lifecycle principles.

• Experience with cloud technologies and containerization is advantageous.

• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.

• Strong programming and debugging capabilities.

• In-depth understanding of backend architecture and development principles.

• Attention to detail and dedication to code quality.

• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

• Strong communication and collaboration abilities.

• Capacity to manage priorities and meet project deadlines.
