Automation Technical Specialist – Eastern or Central Region

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the subject matter authority for the implementation of automation hardware solutions in major core clinical laboratories.

• Oversee onsite implementation tasks, which include receiving equipment, reviewing site readiness, placing equipment, assembling, testing, and verifying operational status.

• Coordinate implementation initiatives with clients, project managers, laboratory leadership, local field service teams, contractors, vendors, and other cross-functional stakeholders.

• Address complex technical inquiries and provide advanced troubleshooting assistance throughout the implementation process.

• Utilize established procedures and formulate practical solutions for technical challenges and customer needs.

• Provide automation product training and technical support to field service staff during and after the implementation phase.

• Assist with post-implementation escalations and offer subject matter expertise for intricate automation system issues.

• Aid in launching new automation hardware products and adding instruments at current customer sites.

• Develop and implement consulting strategies to enhance customer partnerships and promote long-term success of automation solutions.

• Ensure compliance with quality system standards and advocate adherence to Abbott’s Code of Business Conduct.

• Travel across the United States to support customer implementation projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• An associate degree in Engineering, Electronics, Automation Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Technical Systems, or a related technical field; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in supporting, servicing, troubleshooting, implementing, or maintaining automation systems, laboratory instruments, diagnostic equipment, or other complex technical systems.

• Experience in resolving technical issues in customer-facing settings.

• Capability to independently manage complex technical projects and specialized tasks.

• Willingness to travel up to 100% across the United States.

• Easy access to a major metropolitan airport.

• A valid driver’s license.

• Preferred: A bachelor's degree in a technical field.

• Preferred: Experience in clinical laboratories, diagnostics, healthcare, or laboratory automation settings.

• Preferred: Knowledge of regulations and standards pertaining to in vitro diagnostics (IVD) and biologics.

• Preferred: Experience in providing technical training, coaching, or mentoring to field service personnel.

• Preferred: Experience in leading implementation projects that involve multiple stakeholders.

• Preferred: Familiarity with Abbott Diagnostics automation and instrument platforms.

• Preferred: Strong experience in project coordination, consulting, and customer relationship management.

• Preferred: Understanding of laboratory workflows and operations.
