Automation Technical Specialist – Eastern or Central Region

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.

📋 Description

• Act as the subject matter expert for the implementation of automation hardware solutions in large core clinical laboratories.

• Oversee onsite implementation tasks, which include receiving equipment, conducting site readiness assessments, positioning equipment, assembling, testing, and confirming operational functionality.

• Manage implementation projects in collaboration with customers, project managers, laboratory leadership, local field service teams, contractors, vendors, and other relevant stakeholders.

• Address intricate technical inquiries and offer advanced troubleshooting throughout the entire implementation process.

• Utilize established protocols and create effective solutions for technical challenges and customer needs.

• Provide automation product training and technical support to field service staff.

• Assist in handling post-implementation escalations and intricate automation system challenges.

• Aid in the launch of new automation hardware products and the integration of instruments at existing customer locations.

• Formulate and implement consulting strategies to enhance customer relationships and promote long-term success with automation solutions.

• Ensure compliance with quality system standards and advocate for adherence to Abbott’s Code of Business Conduct.

• Travel across the United States to assist with customer implementation projects.

⛳️ Requirements

• An associate degree in Engineering, Electronics, Automation Technology, Biomedical Equipment Technology, Technical Systems, or a related technical field; or a comparable combination of education and experience.

• A minimum of 4 years of experience in supporting, servicing, troubleshooting, implementing, or maintaining automation systems, laboratory instruments, diagnostic equipment, or other complex technical systems.

• Proven experience in resolving technical issues within customer-facing roles.

• Capacity to independently manage complex technical projects and specialized tasks.

• Willingness to travel up to 100% across the United States.

• Convenient access to a major metropolitan airport.

• A valid driver’s license.

• A bachelor’s degree in a technical field is preferred.

• Experience in clinical laboratories, diagnostics, healthcare, or laboratory automation settings is preferred.

• Familiarity with regulations and standards related to in vitro diagnostics (IVD) and biologics is preferred.

• Experience in delivering technical training, coaching, or mentorship to field service teams is preferred.

• Experience in leading implementation projects with multiple stakeholders is preferred.

• Familiarity with Abbott Diagnostics automation and instrument platforms is preferred.

• Strong skills in project coordination, consulting, and customer relationship management are preferred.

• Understanding of laboratory workflows and operations is preferred.
