Auditor Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa.

📋 Description

• Code and categorize patients’ records for billing purposes.

• Review patient medical records both retrospectively and concurrently to ensure accurate coding and sequencing of diagnoses and procedures for reimbursement.

• Collaborate with and support billers regarding coding inquiries and requests.

• Act as a resource for complex coding questions.

• Assist in addressing insurance denials for corrections and resubmissions.

• Suggest process enhancements to management, especially concerning registration and charge posting procedures.

• Conduct duties in adherence to federal, state, and insurance industry regulations.

• Comply with established hospital corporate compliance policies.

• Keep abreast of insurance carrier rules and updates through both carrier-specific and MCI educational opportunities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Fully remote work environment.

• Coding Certification is mandatory.

• A minimum of two years of current experience in surgical coding is required.

• High school diploma or GED is necessary.

• One to two years of post-high school education is preferred.

• At least two years of current experience with ICDM 9, CPT coding, and health insurance provider rules and regulations is required.

• Proficiency in anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is essential.

• Completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to the served population within three (3) months of hire is required.

• Knowledge of physician EM coding is desirable.

• Familiarity with computer information systems is required.

• Ability to communicate professionally, appropriately, effectively, and tactfully in written, verbal, and nonverbal forms.

• Capacity to work independently, make sound decisions within hospital and departmental guidelines, and require minimal assistance from the Manager.
