Auditor Coding Specialist

This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Iowa.

📋 Description

• Code and abstract patient records for professional billing purposes.

• Conduct retrospective and concurrent reviews of patient medical records to ensure accurate coding and sequencing of diagnoses and procedures for reimbursement.

• Collaborate with and support billers by addressing coding-related inquiries and requests.

• Act as a resource for challenging coding questions.

• Assist in addressing insurance denials for corrections and resubmissions.

• Provide recommendations for process improvements to management, particularly regarding registration and charge posting.

• Adhere to regulations set by federal, state, and insurance industry standards.

• Follow established hospital policies related to corporate compliance.

• Keep updated on changes and rules from insurance carriers through carrier-specific and MCI educational opportunities.

⛳️ Requirements

• Required coding certification.

• At least two years of relevant experience in surgical coding.

• High school diploma or GED is mandatory.

• One to two years of post-high school education is preferred.

• A minimum of two years of current experience with ICDM 9, CPT coding, and knowledge of health insurance provider rules and regulations is required.

• Understanding of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology is necessary.

• Completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training related to the served population within three (3) months of hire is required.

• Familiarity with physician EM coding is desirable.

• Proficient working knowledge of computer information systems is required.

• Possess professional, appropriate, effective, and tactful communication skills, both written and verbal, as well as nonverbal communication.

• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and make sound decisions within hospital and departmental guidelines with minimal assistance from the Manager.
