This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Assess the assignment of ICD-10, CPT, and/or HCPCS codes by client coders for inpatient, outpatient, and physician practice encounters.
• Conduct thorough concurrent and retrospective analyses of inpatient medical record documentation to confirm the accuracy of coded data.
• Examine results and pinpoint possible root causes of discrepancies.
• Create summary reports and audit deliverables for clients, including supporting references.
• Provide second-level reviews to ensure compliance and appropriate code assignments.
• Investigate, analyze, and address compliance, coding, and denial inquiries.
• Safeguard the confidentiality of patient and client information while adhering to AHIMA ethical coding standards and official coding guidelines.
• Develop and deliver coding education to clients as part of the Consulting Services Team.
• Carry out assigned audits while achieving productivity benchmarks, ensuring at least 80% billable productive hours when client work is available.
• Perform independent quality assurance checks on audit outcomes prior to final submission, maintaining at least 95% accuracy.
• Accurately and promptly report work hours and deliverables.
• Communicate in a professional manner with colleagues and clients.
• Provide management with schedules detailing planned work activities, events, sites, and any changes.
• Undertake other assigned responsibilities.
• Significant coding and auditing experience in IP facility and/or OPP facility settings.
• AHIMA or AAPC certification is mandatory; CCS, RHIT, or RHIA are strongly preferred; CIC or COC may be considered.
• Experience with telecommuting and electronic medical record systems is essential.
• Valid credential from AHIMA or AAPC is required.
• Strong analytical capabilities are necessary.
• Proficient in computer skills, particularly with Microsoft Office products.
• Ability to manage multiple and diverse clients and projects effectively.
• Capability to work with minimal supervision.
• Ability to maintain and access numerous files.
• High levels of accuracy and attention to detail are crucial.
• More than 5 years of experience in coding and/or auditing within an acute care facility or clinic, involving the patient types mentioned in the job summary or other pertinent experience.
• Ability to work at a computer terminal for 6–8 hours each day.
• Ability to occasionally lift and move materials weighing up to 20 lbs.
