This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in Illinois.
• Oversee numerous audit, review, and assurance engagements simultaneously, from the planning and risk assessment stages to the final review and delivery.
• Act as the main point of contact for a designated portfolio of clients, fostering long-term relationships.
• Conduct final reviews of workpapers, financial statements, and client deliverables prior to partner approval.
• Manage the economics of engagements, which includes budgets, work in progress, billing, and realization.
• Maintain communication with partners, team members, and clients regarding expectations, statuses, findings, and outstanding items.
• Research and document technical positions, assisting clients in understanding new standards.
• Supervise and delegate tasks among all staff levels.
• Participate in proposals and secure new business opportunities.
• Establish referral networks with attorneys, bankers, and other advisors.
• Identify opportunities for cross-serving within tax, advisory, and client accounting services.
• Represent Aprio at industry associations, conferences, and in thought leadership initiatives.
• Mentor, develop, and motivate associates, senior associates, and managers.
• Provide feedback and guidance to less experienced team members.
• Contribute to industry-specialty training to enhance technical capabilities.
• Assist in recruiting and retention efforts.
• Bachelor's degree in accounting or a closely related discipline.
• Active CPA license is required.
• A minimum of ten years of current or recent public accounting experience, with a focus on audit and assurance.
• Proven track record of managing, coaching, and developing staff accountants.
• Strong analytical skills applicable to financial statements and other financial data.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills when interacting with clients and colleagues.
• Demonstrated initiative and sound judgment, with a readiness to lead, make decisions, and work independently.
• High standards of professional integrity and ethics.
• At least five years of assurance experience specifically focused on tax-exempt organizations, along with significant Single Audit experience.
• Familiarity with Single Audit requirements under 2 CFR 200 (Uniform Guidance), including major program determination, the Schedule of Expenditures of Federal Awards (SEFA), compliance supplements, and schedules of findings and questioned costs.
• Experience auditing in accordance with Government Auditing Standards (GAGAS, or the Yellow Book), and compliance with GAGAS continuing professional education requirements.
• Working knowledge of nonprofit reporting under ASC 958.
• Experience in distinguishing exchange transactions under ASC 606 from contributions under ASC 958-605.
• Background with endowments and UPMIFA, donor restrictions, board designations, and disclosures related to liquidity and availability.
• Understanding of contributed nonfinancial assets, donated services, and gifts in kind.
• Comfortable presenting findings and internal control issues to audit committees and finance committees.
