This is a fully remote position, open to applicants in United States.
• Collaborate with educational leaders to formulate detailed annual budgets and create proactive financial forecasts.
• Generate and assess budget-to-actual variance reports, providing insights into financial performance and emerging trends.
• Manage client financial systems such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, and Vena, ensuring data accuracy and efficient transaction management.
• Develop and present financial reports for client finance committees and governing boards.
• Act as the main financial contact and trusted advisor for school clients.
• Simplify complex financial concepts for non-financial school leaders in a clear, direct, and empathetic manner.
• Foster client relationships to enhance satisfaction and facilitate contract renewals.
• Oversee the timely and accurate submission of state and federal compliance reports.
• Serve as the primary contact for annual financial audits and manage document requests.
• Proactively identify potential cash flow challenges, budget deficits, and compliance risks.
• Stay informed on school finance regulations and grant requirements for assigned states.
• Delegate responsibilities to and mentor junior finance staff.
• Provide feedback to enhance VSS financial tools and reporting templates.
• Lead at least one internal initiative, such as state subject-matter expertise or a project focused on team capability improvement.
• Function as the de facto CFO for a portfolio of 4–6 schools, taking responsibility for their financial well-being and presenting in board meetings.
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
• Over 4 years of progressive experience in accounting or corporate finance roles.
• Demonstrated capacity to create comprehensive budgets and forward-looking financial forecasts.
• Experience in preparing and delivering financial analyses and reports to leadership or external stakeholders.
• Proven history of effectively managing relationships with clients or internal business partners.
• Familiarity with financial compliance requirements and support for annual audits.
• Ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines across multiple entities or projects concurrently.
• Experience within K-12 school districts, charter schools, non-profits, or governmental accounting.
• Practical experience with modern ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct) and FP&A tools (e.g., Vena Solutions).
• Experience in delegating tasks and mentoring junior staff.
• Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for financial modeling and presentation creation.
